Carfax, worth it? I know this is a 240 forum but i have been lookin at a 95 bonneville to drive 2 college. It has the bulletproof 3.8 L but for some reason just shuts down and the comp. wont let it start back up. I was wondering if doing a carfax would be worth it to see if I could find the cause of this. or does anyone here have an account that they wouldnt mind doin it for me????

carfax won't help you find that out. carfax essentially tells you who has owned the car, if it's been totalled or salvaged/rebuilt, stolen, etc.

try looking up faq's for Bonneville's thru google's search engine. and try to find technical bulletins as well.

yeah. using your eyes on a used vehicle. and looking for the tell-tale signs is free. using carfax isn't. i know my car was in *something* i don't think it was major. as the car is straight. the paint on the passenger side is shoddy, and the glass on the passenger side door is not a nissan brand, but aftermarket. probably was keyed or broken into. as it *was* a philly car.

take it to a mechanic friend or a dealership youve bought from before, have them check it out.

Carfax doesnt tell you ****, you can have nearly your entire car rebuilt and as long as the insurance co. never knew neither will carfax.
