carbon fiber vs. stock

hey another question that i searched but couldnt find. What is the weight differences between the carbon fiber hood and trunk vs. stock. wonder if its actually more useful than just looks specially with the ones with the gills. also would that effect my AEM intake.

the hood actually weighs more they said by like a lb bc the damn stock one is so light......trunk dunno about

By holding them, they seem about the same. I also heard the carbon fiber hood is just a tad heavier. I haven't heard anything about the trunks, but I imagine it to be a little lighter since it works on hinges so you don't have all that hydraulic crap in there anymore

I can guarantee you the ViS hood is heavier than stock. I'd guess no more than 5-6lbs heavier though. That being said, it's not like you're drag racing on a professional circuit so don't bother getting your panties in a knot over it.

Where CF hoods really help is on the old 240s. Those things had cast iron hoods (or at least that's what it feels like, anyway...). Another thing to keep in mind is that the "carbon fiber" hoods from ViS or Extreme Dimensions are just a fiberglass skeleton with a CF overlay, so you shouldn't be expecting a feather-weight product.

...now the true CF hood Stillen has on their GTR...now THAT'S a lightweight thing of beauty! I lifted that with my pinky finger easily...but that also costs well into the $2k range I'm sure.
