I have a 95 240, with and S15 front end. I recently wrecked it on the freeway and I hit one of the white fiberglass flags on side of road. The carbon fiber hood took most of the front end damage. Ive read about how to fill in with “epoxy” to sand down cracks or where the coating has cracked. In the outline of the flag marker the lacquer (?) coating is actually gone, with the fiber exposed. Is just small section in the outline of the marker. I want to fill it in and paint it black like rest of car. Does anybody know what the actual product is to fill it in with? or is it even possible? I will try to get close up pictures in the morning. Again, I do not want to keep the carbon look of the hood, just wanna fill it in, sand, and paint. Any help would be great, thanks….

THere are 2 ways carbon fiber is finished. Rather a cheap gel coat (ebay hoods) or multiple coats of clear coat. If youve never done fiberglass work id take it to a body shop, because there are a million ways to do it wrong and only a few ways to do it right. Pretty much just need it sanded and re cleared without sanding the actual fiberglass.

havent been on in a while so ill make a contribution
first there is no fiber glass in carbon fiber. its carbon fiber
most cf hoods are dry carbon fiber.
try any way you want to fix it if your not going to keep the cf look then your going to prime paint a diff color
either way you can always sand it down and start again lol
i would do it cheap
get some 80 grit sand in the cracks and the surrounding areaswhare your going to prime
then use body filler to fill in the cracks and level out the uneven surface
then use 80 grit sand flat
then use another skim coat of fillerover all the 80 grit scratches
then use 180 grit and sand flat
then use 320 grit around the surrounding 180 grit scratches
prime over your repair area
wait till ites dry then sand with 400
then paint

Carbon fiber, fiber glass ...it all looks the same in raw form...and it all sucks to work with. Your on the right path just reworking it and painting it..i used to work at a body shop and after fixing handfuls of body kits when it was popular you learn to hate it. You will itch...all the time.

if you go to like autozone or advaced they usually have body filler there in gallons but if you can get some in a quart that's your best option. any kind is ok your not going to use much. but i'd stay away from the "BONDO" brand. it tends to not sand very well. "Evercoat" sells very good fillers
if you can find glazing putty or polyester putty its thinner and sands better for skim coats

Is that the same as fiberglass resin? I kno im not patching fiber glass but someone told me to just use the resin to fill in cracks better, sand it down then use the body filler as u described. Yes, autozone sells quarts for $16

What primer are you using? It looks pretty thin. To keep things flat when sanding id use "filler primer" (if using rattle can primer) and then block sand with a 9" rat tale. Then do all the sharper curves by hand. Looks good so far though.
