Hey guys, I wanted to ask all of you what you thought of carbon fiber and or fiberglass replacement and cosmetic parts for your cars.

Do you like them, hate them, need them, , etc.?

The reason I'm asking is, because I have an idea. Since our cars are getting pretty old , and Nissan no longer makes most (vert specific) parts, there are alot of things that need replacing, but we just can't find the oem stuff anymore. The other reason is, cosmetic and functional performance parts are a way to make our cars look and perform better. Carbon fiber done tastefully, looks really good IMHO, and I am really considering a new business making some parts for 240's and the vert. If there was interest, and the parts came out good, I could maybe start marketing some affordable stuff in the future.

For my first project I want to make a windshield header molding. Mine is broken, and I'm sure alot of you have one, that is cracked or in pieces. I want to make a mold of one, and try to make one made of carbon fiber and one of fiberglass and see what would look and work better.

I was also thinking of other parts like door panels and rear panels, windshield trim end piece, glove box skin, center console, top receiver plate, just to name a few.

What kind of parts would you guys be interested in, if any?

This is just an idea right now, and producing affordable quality parts will take time but could turn into something, if enough people were interested. Thanks and I look forward to your ideas and comments.

I would be interested in a windshield header made of either. I'm not a huge fan of CF...just because most ricers just go freakin' crazy with it. But like you said...tastefully done it can look good. If you do decide to pump a few out I would truly be interested in one.

carbon is sick for interior parts! what about a c/f boot cover for the top that would look so sick. i like the oem one but it never really forms to the car well.

Id say you have a good shot at making some good money, if... you turn out some nice fitment and nice finish parts. I would drop some money on parts if they were worth the money.

Give it a shot and snap some pics, if its a nice fit and nice finish, you'll see some hits quite fast!!

im with madcow, a boot would be awesome, just sucks that it would not be able to be stored in the car when not in use. that is unless you found a way to make it fold.

I'm up for it provided the cost isn't crazy. It always seems that CF is 2x what the OEm part is but reasonable priced pieces would be great!

carbon fiber in its self is expensive. thats why the parts are expensive

Thanks for the input guys, I will start making the header trip as soon as I have a bit of time. I just started a new job in a body shop that also makes carbon/ fiberglass parts, and I will keep you guys posted on ther progress.

any one remember a rhd vert, god it must have been 5 plus years ago. but it was i think almost ruby in color. but it was carbon fibered the heck out. almost everything u could do was carbon fiber. i saw it in Ocala Fl. for a drift event, and i think i read somewhere on here they switched up the front end from a silvia front to an s15 front end, and i think it was repainted blue??? i wish had pics that would relate to this topic.

I've contacted 10+ companies about carbon wrapping or making header trim piece. Wrapping was very expensive and even worse if they make one from scratch because they have to make a mold. Anyway, my plan was rebuild header trim to decent condition and send it to this place to do the warpping. If you can make carbon one in good quality, I'm definitely interested.

think, along with most of the rest of the interior - the difference its made to the dashboard is immense

Put me down for another heater thing, but you'd have to send it to the UK

i have no idea about the seats, but from what i can see, the main CF parts in there are door panels and rear panels. A little too much for my tastes, I like black suede with splashes of color and textures.

I'm mostly interested in the header trim, but A-pillars would be good too. Especially a driver side with gauge pods.

Update. I got my broken header piece fixed, (plastic welded) the next step is to make a mold. We are gathering the materials to make the mold. There is alot more involved in making them than I originally thought, but we are going forward anyways. The chemicals are expensive, and not many suppliers carry them in my area. We are picking up the mold release tomorow and gel coat. My boss also bought a vacuum table, I'm really excited to get started. He is making ferrari kit cars, we already have a few parts made, I'll post pics in the comming days.

Put me down for the header peice. Do you have a ballpark price on it? Also does that include the peices on top where those two post on the top slide in? those are smashed to hel on mine.

I dont have a price yet, it will all depend on how much the materials will cost and how much time it takes. I will have to make a mold of everything that we are going to re--make.Do you have a pic of the piece your talking about?

I'll buy headliner piece for sure if it comes out nice.

It's K5308. It's easy to break and no longer available from Nissan. It should be CNC machined.

Whoever makes good quality windshield header piece will make a lot of money. It has to be in good quality though.

It would be nice for one company to focus as a one stop shop for the header pannel repair and offer a complete DIY kit.

I am not in there yet but I am thinking that a patch pannel might be really nice (water jet cut and bent metal would be both strong and relatively cheap) as well as new clips to hold things together. What do you think?

Thanks,

Will

I wish I had more time to finish the mold, but I'm still working on them, really busy with work, but hopefully I will have the part made this summer.

CF or fiber glass, whatever it is, what's going to be ideal price range? Just curious.
