I'm planning to do the massively oversized IC behind the radiator core support thing, and the pipes have to go past where the stock carbon can goes so it had to be moved. Also it had like 4 hoses coming off it and people only seemed to know where 2 of them were supposed to go.

so in the process of searching and trying to figure the thing out I came across this thread in a Z forum.

zer...59832

seemed like a good idea and allowed me to move the can and make it look better at the same time. However the strait through design of it means in a turbo(mine is s13 blacktop sr20det) it would pressurize the gas tank under boost, and would require additional valving(prob what all the hoses on the stocker are for). So what I came with was a pcv valve on the exit of the can.

now funny thing, it worked at first but after I shook it some carbon got stuck in the valve and it wouldn't close sometimes. you can shake it again and it would work, but I didn't want to hit like a bump or something and suddenly have a pressurized gas tank, so i added another check valve between the pcv valve and the vacuum hose going to the intake. anyway heres how it turned out. not a big deal but a nice weekend project I think.

Installed.

if you remove it all together then gas vapors escape through the hardline. this is bad for the environment and it violates emissions in most places. if you don't care about that then removing it isn't a big deal, but I do.

You have a SR and care about the environment that has to be an Oxymoron

I care enough to not have an unnecessary gas vapor leak. It doesn't effect performance so what's the problem with it?

I like the small can idea. The last owner left mine open. Also, I cut up a NISMO test pipe to weld a catalytic converter in... Rewelded the name plate to the cat too.

actually yes it will. the rules in my state are basically, if "one" came with the car, it needs to be on the car. which means if the car came with "a" carbon can, it needs to have one. doesn't have to be stock, just needs to be there. you can run a full race 5" cat if you want, all the rules say is a cat needs to be there.

There's only a safety which has a visual emissions test anyway, and they don't care so much about that sort of thing. mostly if your ball joints and break pads are good so you don't crash, you pass.

besides, I can take the lid off and show them it's full of carbon if they want, just to prove it's legit. and the car won't smell like gas either.

PS: I do have the stock one just in case, but I'd bet real money it never comes up.
