In 4th gear at anything below 50 is gonna be slow in a Q. thats just how they are, anything below drive in 50.

one of the downfalls of a 4 speed auto.

And no plenum removal and cleaning, nor TB, EGR and IAC valves, etc. Injector rail flush? Annual air and fuel filter changes? BG44K?

Best practice is not to lug engine below 2500 rpm if car is not at constant speed on level road.

Sport Compact Car did an article on Motorvac some years ago. They reported very positive results. It's a rail fed cleaner that's run for a prolonged time - not entirely sure, but I believe it's at least 15 to 20 mins? SSC stated that it basically steam cleans the combustion chambers and valves.

Here's some info on it.

Why don't you do it and give us a review? Sounds cool and $130 isn't bad for what sounds like a super rail flush. (Of course it isn't my money.)

Have you had the fuel pump replaced? It's probably due.

For $130? Not bad at all. I'd get it done.

I would much prefer the near lethal solvents of the BG rail flush to any steam in my fuel system.

The BG rail flush chemicals are mild compared to fogging BG ISC into the plenum................do outside and runaway or use oxygen mask............it will peel paint on shop walls near exhaust if done correctly.Luckily aluminum, valves, and rings are robust enough.

Until people look inside plenum with a flashlight they cannot comprehend the amount and sliminess of an uncleaned plenum interior.

I do mine every 2 years........when it's off for someother task.

What about seafoam? It seems a good way to smoke out a neighborhood but from what I hear it gives good results.

I don't know. I did some reading about it. I'm still unclear on it's application. I saw that one guy used 1/3 of a can in his fuel tank for the fuel system cleaning, another third he poured out of a cup directly into his brake booster line for the air intake cleaning, and the other third directly into his engine oil.

I haven't gotten a reliable source for the proper application of Seafoam, so I don't want to try it until I do.

Hey tech a/b how long and how much is the BG ISC fogging. I have a 95 that has 251K miles. I purchased it w/ 132K well maintained and I have done the same. Synthetic Mobil 1 oil, spark plugs changed, MAF cleaned, BG44K, throttle body cleaned, etc. Just curious b/c it sounds like something we may all need to look into aside from a complete plenum job.

It takes about an hour + ISC cost..............the 15 minutes of fogging must be immediately followed by a 10 minute vigorous high rpm drive, then an immediate oil change!!!!!!! No IFs and and about this.

I usually clean my entire plenum and TB by hand when it's off, then fog in between times.

When I had my throttle body off, I just reached in there with a rag wet with simple green, over and over and over and over and over... I doubt it came completely clean, but it must have helped some. It was just one black rag after another.

As for seafoam, I've used it in my Jeep and it's quite popular in the jeeper community. I've run 1/3 can through the brake booster line. It didn't smoke extremely bad. I guess that's good news. It idles much better and lower. I'm recluctant to run in in the crankcase because it might reveal any leaks that are there.

Didn't Wes run seafoam in his Q right before the engine went kaput? Who knows if one had anything to do with the other.

The Maxima community has used it a lot with good results. Mostly via the brake booster line.

The whole thing? I was unclear about the putting it in the engine oil. Is that a good idea?

Some Jeepers complain that using seafoam in the oil (1/3 can) makes the engine leak. Consensus is that it doesn't make it leak, but rather cleans up the crud filling a spot allowing the leak. I have not and don't plan on using it in the oil.

Study MSD of seafoam and you will see it contains nothing useful that cannot be bought at Home Depot and mixed.

Unfortunately using the brake line into plenum does nothing for TB plate front and rear or housing and the neck to plenum.

Just used the BG fuel additive on my sluggish '96 Q., and it made a big difference in performance and mileage. No more problems up this SF hills.

Now thinking about a total BG Air/Fuel service.

GREAT ADVICE!!!!!!!!!!!QTech

I had the Motorvac service to my '96 Q yesterday at a Infiniti dealer and there is a 100% improvement in power on hills. And the fuel consumption seems to have gotten better as well.Fuel pump tested fine, and at the time they found a cracked cooling fan blade. Perfect Q once again.

Good to know. Congrats. How much was it? Is that just a 96 option because of OBDII? Or can it happen in an older Q?

It cost $129.00 and the tech said older Q's would really benefit too. He's been at this Infiniti dealer since 1993 so I guess he knows his stuff.Glad he found the crack in the fan blade, that was 300 bucks, oh well cheaper than a new car if that plastic part blew off at 85mph

I am sure the tech was glad to find the cracked fan blade too,at that inflated cost! I bought that fan blade from our buddy Joe for $65,and installed it myself in less than 10 minutes-it is just a few bolts.
