So i have an 84 2wd 2.4l. the bottom was stumbling a little bit, so i took the whole carb apart and cleaned everything, put it back together, and now on the bottom end its stumbling even more than it was. i thought the problem was that it was too lean, but maybe its that it was too rich? maybe cleaning it made it worse? can you adjust the air screw on the carb? and if so, where is it located? the best way to describe it, is from idle, if i was to punch the gas, it would stumble for 2 seconds or so before revving up normally. once the engine is up to about 2krpm the problem goes away, its just right off the bottom. thats why i was tryin to find the air screw. but im having trouble distinquishing too rich from too lean on the bottom since its right off idle. it makes taking off smoothly a problem i have to feather the gas until i get moving then im good.

it also depends on what year if i remember right... to mess with some of the air screws you have to open up the carb from what i remember

if its not located on the base of the carb as mentioned above... you may have the more annoying version that does not want you to adjust it

but to answer your question... it does sound as if it is a bit rich

It could also be the power valve. This valve gives more gas for better acceleration, when you press the pedal the lever on the carb presses on the plunger giving the extra gas needed. It could be the ball at the bottom of the valve is not seating properly, allowing too much gas on acceleration.

It does. The orifice for the spray is below the butterfly in the Nikki and Hatichi carbs. In the Webber and Holley they are above the butterfly just below the venturi.

Not really. Use some carb spray. You have to remove the carb from the engine to turn it over for the ball under the plunger to come out, then spray liberally into the orifice and on the seat for the ball, reinstall the ball and plunger. Remove the air screw, spray liberally and reinstall. Gently turn the air screw in until it stops and turn it out 2 turns. Start and adjust the air screw at idle first before trying to rev the engine. Hope this helps.

Its not easy to do it that way but it could be done. Disconnect the lever to the plunger then try opening the butterfly with the linkage and keep it open with a screwdriver or something of that sort. Once open operate the plunger by hand to see if it squirts. Hope this helps.
