Car wont stay idle for more than a couple mins..help?

My 95 240sx is having trouble staying on idle it shuts off after 2-3 mins. a friend of mine said it could be the wiring harness. I get some backfire then car goes off but if i keep it rev up it stays running until i stop. any help?

yea i have the same problem im thinking it may be time for a new o2 sensor but im not sure

My 89 240 did the same thing. Turns out it was the alternator. I always thought if the alternator was out, it was out but i guess not. Idle problems are hard to diagnose cause it really could be almost anything. Call a shop and see if you can get it looked at for free/cheap then fix it yourself. Does the car run fine at a stop light or is it just in park..........

I can't go more than a couple blocks before engine shuts off on me..

Check your vacuum hoses hard core. could be something as simple as that.
