hey guys, I drive a 1990 Nissan 300zx n/a. car has never given me any issues until last night. went to start it after leaving work and it had battery and sounded like it wanted to turn over but to me ( a non- mechanic ) it sounds like my engine wasn't getting any fuel. I checked my fuses thinking it was just a electrical problem but nothing was popped, tried even popping the clutch and get it started on a roll and nothing either. So I called a really educated friend and he said that he is 100% positive that its my COOLANT TEMPATURE SENSOR! please leave me some feedback on ways I can fix this! like I said its been flawless till now! only has 100,000k miles. AND BEFORE I GET A DUMB RESPONSE YES THERES FUEL!

Check for codes in the ECU. There are walk throughs' on what to do. Don't just rely on the CEL on the dash. The ECU will spit up codes if something is wrong.

Definitely check for codes. From my experience a bad coolant sensor doesnt prevent the car from starting it just make it run really bad. One thing to check would be your PTU ( power transistor unit) when these go bad the car will not start but you are able to crank it. Also double check your connection for the CAS (crank angle sensor) an issue with this one will also prevent your car from starting.

If you go the fuel issue route. Check the fuel pump relay. Do you hear the fuel pump turn on when the key is in the ON position?

A bad coolant temp sensor will in fact prevent the car from starting. If it's bad, it messes up the ignition timing and can prevent it from starting (ask me how I know). It can also flood the engine if you try starting it enough times, and if it does start it will run crappy and you will get bad gas mileage. A new one is like $20-25 so just get one.

Yeah it's cheap and easy so I would go ahead and replace it to be sure (coolant temp sensor).

When i was trying to find sensors that increase the ECU timing since mine is stuck at 20* i disconnected the coolant sensor and the car was still able to start with the sensor disconnected.
