car will starts in the morning when it's cold and then not again until it cools off. When you turn the switch it will only click (sometimes 2 to 3 clicks) to relay that is mounted on the fender wall, but it will not engage the started. The battery is fully charged and we have replaced the starter with another used one. Car runs fine after it starts and it will run until you cut it off. It is a manual shift transmission and you can kick start it when it does not start. do we need to replace the relay mounted on the fender wall? Any help is extremely appreciated for 1992 nissan 240sx

after a couple of turn of the key it starts but when i park it at work and going home it won't start...i just replace the starter thought it will help...still the same thing...so i just put a wire from the starter to connect to battery and thats the reason it starts..

if your car is manual transmision you step on the clutch to start your car...there is a switch there under the clutch just wondering if that switch goes bad....

oh im not sure ive never heard of the relay going bad but im sure its possible! you could always jump the wires so you dont have to use the clutch anymore... look under 240sx tech.

So your saying that the car doesn't want to start up until it cools back down? If so try taking out the engine coolant temp sensor and cleaning and put it back in see if that helps. It's the square one right next to the gauge sending one.

Rapid clicks or slow clicks?

Clean your terminals and tighten the battery terminals.

Does jiggling the key help at all? Also if it's the US model, bypass the clutch starter "lock".

Turn on your headlamps and then crank it, does it get dimmer?

You have the right idea.

The switch you are thinking of is the neutral safelty switch, but that wouldnt cause this kind of problem. Sounds like bad connection at the battery

I dont understand where these clicks are coming fom he says the relay at the fender wall? which one is it??... I know the EGI pump relay will click if the battery is low or the terminals are crapping out.. new terminals are only about 5 bucks lol

its probably coming from the starter solinoid. When a starter doesnt get enough juice, it tends to click rapidly.

Are you talking about a relay under the hood? The cover should tell you which one is the starter relay, or google it.

240's don't have a starter relay...

IGN straight to the solenoid's IGN terminal.

Well i have had a battery crap out on me and the EGI pump relay which is the relay that tells the ecu to cut fuel before the engine is started if it is underpowered it will click. so im assuming he might think thats a starter relay but it is not! like I said he should test his battery or terminals and grounding points
