I have a 90 sohc coupe. car was running like normal 2 days ago, turned the car off for 5 min then tried starting it and wouldnt even turn over. but whats weird is when i opened the door the dome light would click on and off really fast and the seat belts would stop and go really fast. so i figured it was the battery. got a new battery today put it in and same thing car wouldnt start but the lights and seat belts were normal.

now history of the car. bought the car ending of 07 and sometime last year the alternator went out, got a new one and 2 weeks later my new battery died again, so i took the alternator back and they said it was probably defective so got a new one free. car ran fine for couple months then starter went out, got it replaced. its been about 4 months or so idk and now it wont start.

when i got the car the battery light never came on when i turned the car on without starting it. or it might have but i never noticed. so now it dosent come on. also when i start the car the dash lights and head lights are dim, and i have to rev it to 3k rpm then lights get bright, and my e-brake light always stays on(i dont know if that has anything to do with it)

so i know my alternator isnt charging the battery do you think its something electrical and im getting a short somewhere? what about the car not starting even with a new battery? i dont see how a new alternator and starter can go out that fast.

any help would be appreciated. and if you have any questions about something i might have left out just ask.

thanks

Check the wiring it shouldn't be to hard to follow starting at the battery. I'm not a 240 guru like some of the people on here but I have had my fair share of wiring problems dealing with altenators not charging cars in the past. My buddy had an old ford tempo gl it used to be a city car. It kept throwing altenator belts etc. Finally after putting 3 belts on it it broke down on the side of the road on him. It ended up being some burned up wiring so I just cut out the bad spot and spliced in some new wire and it ran forever. LOL nothing like some electrical tape and a couple dollars worth of wire. : I would try following your wire off your battery assuming the 240 is similar to other cars I would say it's a bad ground. I would just follow the wire around. Mine was acting funny when I first brought it home and I found that underneath of the battery tray was a whole lot of rust. The negative battery cable is also connected almost directly underneath of the battery tray. So I ended up moving it around to a spot with no rust and it fixed my problems. I would try looking for a bad ground somewhere or burned up wiring. Replace the wiring or create a good ground. Then replace the fuse and see if it fixes the problem. More often then not wiring issues are more time consuming finding the problem then actually fixing it. Good luck and let us know what you find.
