i have a '91 240sx with about 155k miles...it starts with no problems but after it's been runing for some time and i turn it off i struggle to start it back up or sometimes it wont start until i let it "cool" off for about 30 minutes.. any ideas what the problem is?

No spark/no fuel when you're having this issue? Your CPS is going out.

Your starter could also be wearing out and when it's hot, it won't engage.

These are both fairly common problems on older vehicles. Start with the CPS if you don't have your own diagnostic tools, as it's cheaper.

it's called heatsoak, and I had the exaxt same thing happen to me. I went to get my battery tested at Advance and when it checked out, we went through and did a starter test. Boom, the starter failed the test. Had to replace the starter for the third time in under a year. I'd go down and get it tested at a shop. But that has always been a starter problem for me.
