car wont shift into 6th without forcing it ????

Ok so my car doesn't wanna shift into 6th gear. I can shift into every gear but 6th and when I try to I need to like force it as if its not supposed to be doing it. Any input is appreciated. Once I get home I'm going to check the short throw shifter and if its not that I'm gonna change the transmission fluid. Any help is greatly appreciated.

at what rpm/mph are you trying to shift from 5th into 6th?
I usually go in at 90-95 mph @ 4000 rpm from 5th to 6th.

Sounds like a short shifter problem or there is a synchro problem. Is it easier at faster speeds?

um no lie dude your not supposed to wait that long to shift on a normal basis. You should be shifting into 6th at 62ish for better mileage

kind of shocked me a bit when you were saying 62ish, then i realized you're talking mhp, i was thinking kmph. i go into 6th about 80kmph which is about 50 mph

My car is CVT but when im in manual mode(when Im racing) I dont shift into 6th until 125-130.... lol

if its not shifting into a gear from a standstill you need to have it looked at.....

not a short shift problem as the throw is the same from 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6....

its an internal problem

hahaha funny and sad bc at that speed ide be in 5th if it wasnt for my damn governor i top out in the peak of 4th gear at 113

i know i took out the short throw shifter today and it didnt change it so im going to take off my rims than go to the dealer

i hit 120mph at redline in 4th the other day, and HAD to go into 5th for 120-136 before i started shytting myself lol. i couldnt keep going. ive gone fast, but on a clear day w/ tons of miles of road.... its too much. (for this cars longevity imho)

I've broken my speed barrier, and im cool w/ that now

car is now back to stock tune, stock wheels, stock bumpers i HATE IT LOL

168mph in my '94 Dodge Stealth RT Turbo. I have the warning ticket somewhere to prove it. Hit 188 on a GSXR750 in my younger, more retarded days too.

On Topic though, I have a CVT, so I can't vouch for the Altima, but 2 previous manual transmission cars with transverse mounting have done this to me. In both cases, it was the linkage where it connects to the transmission. One car it ended up being a stick stuck in the linkage. Don't ask me how. Squirrel sabotage or something. The other one ended up actually being a bent linkage rod for getting a little "over zealous" with my shifting. Worth looking at in any case.
