First off let me just say I am very new to the import world so if I don't understand something please help me understand. I own an 87 Chevy Camaro so I'm not sure how different the 240sx will be but I am willing to learn. So here is my problem: just bought the 89 240sx on Monday April 23 and had no problem getting it home after a 45min drive, shut it off then needed to move it and it wouldn't start. So I thought it overheated so I let it sit for 30min-1hr and it started right up. Two days later I started it to see if it would start and to see if my check engine light came on, I turned it off and it started right up. Well last night I went to start it to go to work and got nothing so I thought it might be outta gas. Well today I put two gallons of gas in it and still wont start. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

BAM

Does the car crank at all?
Auto or Manual?

Car will crank but won't turn over and start. It's a manual.

By "turn over", you mean it's not firing?

When you turn the key, does it sound like it normally does prior to actually firing?

First step is to isolate fuel or electrical.

When you turn the key on, do you normally hear the fuel pump priming? If so, do you hear it at this point?

If you don't normally hear it, I'd check fuel pressure at the rail. Someone else should be able to tell you what it's supposed to be at.

Car started this morning and It's making a clicking noise. I'm going to check the fuel to start and I'll check the oil because I think the clicking might be the lifters. Correct me if I'm wrong

Does the clicking change with RPMs?

Does it go away when the engine warms up?(if so, I'd change the oil and maybe run a cleaner through it)

The fact that you just bought this kind of concerns me. I'm thinking you'll need to do basic maintenance.
Change oil
Change air filter
spark plugs and wires
fuel filter
clean battery terminals

As I press the acclerator the clicking seems to get faster but not much louder. I added more oil, changed the spark plus, new battery and terminals. Also after I drive the car for awhile and I get to where I'm going, turn it off then try to restart it, it won' start then I wait some time and it starts right up. Not sure my but I think it might be a sensor.

That bit about it not starting up after running it for a while leads me to believe a bad FPR.

Ok, its possible that something is wrong (like a coolant temp sensor), and the vehicle is dumping too much fuel when you try to start it back up, and it wont start... do you smell fuel when you crank it?

The tapping noise could be a result of fuel in your oil (thus thinning it out). Pull the dipstick and smell the oil. If it smells like fuel, change it out immediately.

I know this is a late reply to this post but I finally changed the fpr and still have the same issue. So at this point I'm thinking its either the fuel pump or the pressure regulator control solenoid valve.

It is an electrical part behind valve cover. Its next to the S.C.V. control solenoid valve. I found them in a service guide.
