my car's been sitting by the curb for some time now without a battery. a week ago I jumped it and it started and ran fine, drove it up the street and back.

but now when I jump it all the lights dim way down, and the starter sounds like it's gunna die. it sounds like it's taking a whole second to rotate the just engine once.

nothing is rubbing. I dunno what the deal is.

sounds like the battery is comletly drained. take the battery and have it tested at a parts store. if it tests ok you may need to yank the starter and have it tested. check your connections real good though if you have excessive corrosion at the battery trminals clean it good. before putting the battery back in.

the car I'm jumping from has a farily new battery, and the car was on when I jumped it anyway. I guess it's the starter then. damn.

it dont matter how strong the other car was. the battery in your car has to have some state of charge for your car to crank properly. do as i suggested. get the battery tested first.

starting a car with no battery is a bad thing. your gonna fry the voltage regulator in the alternator.

if you havent done so already. I really honestly didnt think anyone would start a car without a battery in it,let alone drive it. yea like Ivory said it aint good for the charge system.

so does this mean my starter is fried? or no? my question wasn't "nothing electrical in my car works", it was, actually, it was more of a comment than a question, but still, when I turn the key, all the lights dim and the starter turns the engine really slow.

I am appreciating the help. I'll get a battery to put in the car.

you can see pics of it here: http://www.geocities.com/corn322/wrecksite.htm
