Today my car, 1989 240sx, died on me and after a while it started up again. I replaced the injectors a couple of months ago but yesterday the injector # 2 was leaking again. I got new O-Rings and a new seal from the dealer and put it in. It started up but died again.

I called a tow truck and had it towed to my house, it actually started and I could drive it up on the truck. When we got to my place, I was going to drive it down, but it wouldn't start all.

The engine didn't crank, I did not hear a clicking noise, The only thing I noticed was that the radio and the clock in the dash went dark. The headlights stayed bright though. I have a 6 months old battery which tested ok.

Could it be the starter relay, or is the starter just stuck?

I didn't try tapping it yet, because it was too dark outside and I was tired of the car.

I'm going to try that in the morning and let you guys know.

Any help and suggestions would be apreciated.

manual trans may have a interlock relay problem as well. but could be starter to. radio and clock will normally go out when in the crank position. sounds like you are just not getting a signal to the starter or the starter is dead. also if its manual check your clutch switch.

Thanks for the quick response, I should heve added it's an auto not a manual. As soon as it stops raining here I'm gonna swim outside and tap the starter, maybe it's stuck. If it's not working I have to go the long and winding road of troubleshooting.

Update: When I got into my car this morning, it started with the first crank and it's running now. I'm going to check the sparkplugs, because last time it didn't start the plugs were all dirty and I replaced them.

:help Newest update: Sparkplugs are fine, I went to get one tire plugged and stopped at the store on the way home, car wouldn't start. Same symptoms, no click, no crank just plain nothing.

Two hours later it started up fine. Is there a possibility that the starter is not working when the engine is hot?

Also, can they test starters at Autozone, while they are in the car or do I have to take it out first.

Almost out of ideas

you got a bad starter. thats a typical symptom of it. when it gets hot from engine temp it wont start. yank it out run it to autozone . have them test and comfirm it is bad.
