When I try to crank the engine, it sounds like that rattling sounds that an impact gun makes as it is loosening a bolt. Like a rat-tat-tat sound.

I thought it was the starter. I bought a new one and got the same results. I took a closer look at the flywheel and noticed that the teeth were worn so I replaced the flywheel. I tried to start the car and got the same result.

Blown motor? You might of thrown a rod and it didn't make it out of the block. Thats what my sentra sounded like after it blew up.

Then why didn't you say that to begin with? People can only help you if you help them by explaining your problem in detail, so technically the car will start it just wont start with the starter.

Order of events:-Car won't start with starter...makes rattling noise. I hop out and tap on the starter a couple times. Same noise. I engage the starter again a hold it for like 5 seconds and the car starts-Was able to drive car for 10 days straight-On day 11, try to start car....same rattling noise-Replaced starter...same problem-Brought start back and bought flywheel (teeth worn on the engine side). Replaced flywheel...same problem

My first thought is that now that the flywheel is good, the teeth on the starter are too worn. But I think it might be something else.

The engine doesn't turn over. The only thing that happens when I try to start the engine is the loud rattling noise.

Here are pictures of the old starter and old flywheel. Would this kind of wear on both cuz their teeth not to engage?

Right now, I have that starter and a new flywheel.

It ended up being a bad battery! I guess it had enough juice to get the gear moving and making some contact but not enough juice to fully push the gear out to fully engage the flywheel teeth.
