I have a 92 stock 240. Every once and a while it will start but cut right off or i would have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it on (then it would eventually stay at idle). If It wouldn't start i would it sit for an hour or so, and it would start right up. Based on that and the fact i smell gas, I figured it was flood. I bought a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel injection cleaner. After replacing the fuel pump and using the fuel injection cleaner, I still have the same problem. I going to replaced the fuel filter today. Another other ideas and suggestions guys? I really hate throwing parts at a car and not knowing the real problem.

It will be hard to diagnose the side feed injectors that way. If your engine requires more than 5-6 cranks before starting, chances are either you have a bad cap and rotor or leaky injectors. To tell which injector may be leaking, pull the spark plugs and look for the ones that are wet and black.

I'm will check the fuel injectors for a leak after work buti'm pretty sure there not leaking. I am also going to to change the spark plugs. I doubt that it's the crank or the rotor. It isn't the amount of times you try starting it. If It starts it will remain on. If it doesn't start I have to wait a while before it will. If the spark plug are black, what does that mean?

this may be a long shot but by any chance did you check your air filter to see if it was clogged up with junk and not letting air get into your motor?
