There's so many things that affect starting, its hard to say with no codes. Battery, starter, ignitor, bad coil pack, camsensors, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc.

it's 93.Could it be bad injector or something? When I pulled the coils out one of them was oil and gas all over the other ones were fine. One more thing one of the spark-plugs on other cylinder was black.

Pull the codes first like Yoda said but it sounds like you might have a spark problem because of the gas on the plug?

I read it as Gas on the Coil pack as in a blown upper Injector O-Ring issue.A black plug is a sign of running rich.

Bummer

I suppose it cant hurt to try the Flooded procedure.Hold the gas pedal to the FLOOR and crank it till it starts sputtering to life.Don't let the giant black cloud coming out the tailpipe scare ya If indeed it was flooded that should clear up quickly.

I tried that and it won't even try to start. No sign to start at all.Nothing.And why would the ECU say that everything is fine if there is something wrong shouldn't it say different code or someting. It's just that 55.I'm stuck.Help!!!

You said nothing as in no starter after you pulled the code -- did you put the ECU back into the normal position?

Yes I had the diagnostic switch back to the full counterclockwise position.

There is something else. The day before the car stopped working I think I overcharged the baterry it was boiling.I did fast charge on 35 Amps for obout 3 hours. While I was charging it the battery was on the car.could that hurt anything I checked all the fuses were fine.

Well thatll do it. Replace the battery, if you live in jersey I have an almost new one. Also check to see that you didn't melt the cables, especially the one going to the starter. Hopefully you didn't fry anything.

So if the battery is bad even if you jump it from another car it may not start??? Is that possible?well the battery still had some power in there.

When you say won't start, you mean the engine isn't even turning over?

I would put in a known good battery and see what it does. Have you check all your fuses?

First of all ,, Don't give up .

If starting fluid didn't make it fire then you must not be getting spark. That has to be a major clue.Anybody here know what feeds juice to the coil packs ?

Maybe the ECU is toast from the overcharge ??

I had all of the spark plugs checked. They were sparking.I mean if one car has "food and water" then what the..... more does it need to start?

There's only so many things invovled in starting. All the spark plugs are sparking, so that rules out the ignitor, battery, coil packs, and plugs. So it has to be a fuel related issue. Bad injectors, filter, pump, or pressure regulator.

Guess what??? The J is back on the street and the reason not to be so far- BAD Fuel Filter (very very dirty). Can't believe that. Thanks everybody. The forum is great. After I replaced it it started right up.I can't be more happy. There is just one thing - it's working on 5 CYLINDERS.It's not spark plug or coil-allready checked.Any suggestions.

Narrow it dowm to the cylinder thats not firing and then do process of elimination. Double check spark, injector, and compression. If it has all 3 it could be weak spark, swap coil packs and plugs with another cylinder and see if you get the same.

Ya I know exactly which cylinder it is, the thing is that I don't know why would it not work.I know for sure that the spark plug and the coil are fine there.

I would check to see if the injector is firing next, and then do a compression test. Like misfit said you only need so many things for a cylinder to fire, fuel and air, compression and spark. when you pull the plug on that cylinder after it has been running does it smell like gas? Is there any color on the plug tip? I know they are new plugs so there may not be anything yet.

Its probably a bad injector, mine was firing on 5 cylinders, and that was my problem. You can have the injectors tested with an electronic pulse, or you can try some fuel injector cleaner. Replacing those is a major b*tch
