my car won't start for some reason and i can't fugure out why. fyi, the car is a '92 with a stock KA.

it started once this afternoon and died right away, ever since i can get it to crank over, but it doesn't sputter or lug or want to catch at all. it sounds like there is no fuel getting to the engine at all.

here's what i've checked and done so far. new spark plugs (bosch platinum), getting spark. the old ones looked kinda crappy but not that bad. took out an injector, fuel was getting to the rail so the pump should be fine. took out #1 plug and fuel was getting into the cylinder. i held my hand over the hole while someone else cranked it and my hand got a little wet with fuel. how much should come out?

my thoughts, maybe a weak fuel pump or a leak in the line. if it isn't getting all the fuel it should it might not get enough to start. one other thing, the gromets that seal the valve cover from the head looked like they were leaking a little bit of oil into the spark plug hole. could that cause problems? also a bad engine ground was suggested to me.

that's all i got, any suggestions are welcome. thanks

searching will be your best help, I can guarantee for sure this has been covered more times than you can shake a stick at. so it starts, then idles rough for a few seconds and dies? Could be your fuel filter needs replacement, could be engine dead, your belts all good? timing chain still on? AIV system could be backfiring causing it to stall. Did you check your ECU for codes? your injectors leaking anywhere, your throttle body clogged? Your timing good? how's your wires and distrubutor? check all your grounds, the battery and engine grounds. When you are starting it are you starting it with the battery or from a jump?

Thats a start.

check all of your vacuum hoses as well.

use a voltmeter to check all your grounds.

Coil.. Is it sparking? Pull the coil wire going to the distributer. Crank motor. Should be sparking big time.. If no spark you have found your problem.

You have fuel cause you hand got wet... It sounds to me like you have no spark. my bet is the coil

"new spark plugs (bosch platinum), getting spark"

you guys obviously didnt read that.

anyways, I would check out the vacuum lines, AIV system, and possible MAF...although the MAF if its dead should run in "limp" mode...

No, I did read, I was re-itterating what you said. but when the origional posted specifically says he has spark, and 3 people say "check the spark" it means they're just posting withotu really reading the information. much like when someone says "get spacers" inb my forums, when the guy says his tires dont rub...

anyways...-chet

On topic of spark. inside the cylinder in normal conditions you got presser in compression cycle. It is require more power to make a spark. Outside of the engine your foulty ignition system may produce a spark. Seen that.My 2 cents.
