Ok, so I got in my car today at lunch and the damn thing wouldnt start, turning the key produced nothing but a single click, so I first cleaned the battery terminals, nothing. Then we took out a fuse and everything worked fine, I replaced the fuse and went on my way, later the same thing happened, only the fuse thing didnt work.

Whenever I cant get it to start, the security system goes off, fortunately (maybe?) the last owner cut the wires connexting the alarm, so it doesnt make noise, however I can start the car by unplugging the positive lead, holding the key turned and having someone connect the positive lead back up.

My main question, if I take out the fuse for the security, I'm assuming its in the 2nd fuse box under the air filter, should that solve my problem?

It's an '89 240sx..

if you use the key to unlock either the drivers door or the passenger door it should deactivate the system. Now it is possible the key switch in one or both the doors is bad but the trunk/hatch cyl should also deactivate it. next time this happens try unlocking one of the other doors with the key and see if it will start[ one at a time so you know if it is just the drivers switch that is bad or if more then one is bad.

I tried it just now, nothing.:(

I found a little black switch under the pedals though, I think it may be a kill switch, Ill update tomorrow...

wish me luck!

w000t, no problems now, I assume the switch was in fact a kill switch for the securirty system.

that would be an after market alarm then nissan had no switches like that for its alarms.

you wouldnt be talking about the clutch switch for the starter cut are you? if so thats not part of the alarm.

i have no clue what you mean, the switch is a little black toggle switch right by the fuse box next to the foot rest on the drivers side..
