Car has been running great! I drive the car only once a week when it's nice out. Just to keep the cobwebs out of it. Anyways, yesterday my wife was parked behind my truck so instead of moving her car I decided I would just take the 240. I start the car up back it out of the garage. I do not have a garage opener in the car so I have to get out and use the keypad. As I step out of the car the 240 idles down, but I decide to just either let it die or hopefully it revs back up. It does die and as I get back in the car turn the car over to start it. It takes a second (cold out so this is expected), and I didnt think it would turn over so I turn the key back to off and try again but as I turn the key back the car acts as if it was going to start, but I did not give it enough time and I turned the key back to the on position to crank it over and as I do so it makes an odd sound cranking over. So I then turn the car back to off position and try one last time. This time the car just turns over making a loading up sound. I get out smell the exhaust and smell nothing but fuel. It is loading up bad. Anyways I head off to work and let the car sit.

I get back home and pull spark plugs to see how they look. They look great. From how the car is acting I assume the timing somehow got knocked off correct timing. I am going to wait until it gets dark to do the spark plug against metal trick to see if its maybe spark.

Today I turned the car over and it just cranked and cranked then as I was stepping out of the car it let out the biggest backfire. I am sure the cops will be here soon for the person shooting an elephant gun in a residential neighborhood.

I am having a very similar problem and I really need help!!! When it is really cold outside, just for reference lets say below 32 degrees, my car will not get spark. It simply will not spark!! But if I sit there and crank it over several times over a 2 minute period, it will back fire like you wouldn't believe and then it will start and run fine!! I have a side exit exhaust and its angled down to the ground, and the back fire was so loud it blew a crater in a gravel driveway! I have an rb20det swap in an 89 240sx. I have the buick coil conversion. Someone please help ASAP.
