i have a 89 240sx w/ a red-top sr20det. i use the car about once a week. anyways i went to go start it this morning and when i hit the alarm the beeps where loud but the auto locks sounded like it had a hard time unlocking. i tried starting it and it did nothing... no cranking. i then noticed my hazard lights were very very dim. so i thought maybe my battery is just dying on me. i dunno how the battery would drain since i didnt leave any lights on or anything. but i tried to jump start it anyways. after hooking it up to another car my hazards were bright again and the autolocks locked/unlocked normally... it was gettin power now. but as i tried to start it this time it cranked but still would not start.

is it still not getting enough power to start? need a brand new battery? dont think its an alternator issue cuz the car should theoretically still start while connected to the other car, right? can it be the starter or ignitor chip? im just confused... it started and worked fine last week.

you prolly dont drive it enough for it to recharge the battery, id say u need another battery, because it wouldnt do anything before u hooked it up to another car and now its cranking. how long did u leave it hooked to the other car? how old is ur battery?

i left it hooked up to the other car for about a minute or two... i was getting late for work so i couldn't wait any longer. i tried starting it like 4-5 times while it was hooked to the other car. the battery is 3 years and 4 months old. my dad tried jumping it while i was at work and it still wouldn't start. can the battery be that weak that it wont jump start? keep in mind it wasnt copletely dead this morning... alarm still worked (but then again that might not need much power to work).

still think i just need a new battery? if so, ill pick one up after work...

3 years old? The symptoms point to its about time for a new one. Just be sure to bring it in to where you bought it. Or when you buy a new one, but one with a warrenty. That way, all you have to do next time is pay 1.27 for the tax when it dies prematurely.
