Well i finally got the turbo on the KA about a week ago and we started her up and she purred o so nicely. We then took her for a drive and ended up blowing off the IACV hose off the cold pipe and the TPS was unplugged due to careless actions after retarding the timing. So we barely made it back home and then the car died. So we hooked back up the IACV hose and plugged in back the TPS. We then started the car and it just so happened to have developed an exhaust leak and the car wouldnt idle unless i kept the revs around 2K. Car is running pig rich. Exhaust smells like raw fuel and its spitting black dark carbon (not a whole lot tho). So thats my dilemma. First off, I read the sticky atop of this part of the forum dealing with the idling issues so lemme address those.

I tried the "wiggling test" and no luck there. Exhaust smells like raw fuel and its spitting black dark carbon (not a whole lot tho). Cranks normally but sometime hesitates due to the rich conditions. I have taken car of this car since 94 as I am the original owner. I use factory wires and im running SR injectors which were flow tested and cleaned professionally back in January of this year. Fuses are all good. Didnt do the unplug test cuz i just changed the O2 sensor and my A/F gauge is reading. Fluids are ok. I am using NGK V power copper plugs. They are currently fouled but im putting new ones in tomorrow.

Now i dont know how to check my grounds to see if they are bad so that could be the culprit. But everything went haywire after i blew off the AICV hose. The car does idle somtimes but other times it wants to just die. Another thing is that when the wastegate is hooked up and the turbo is spooling, when at about 50mph the car shudders like crazy. Any ideas on that?

what are you using to control those 370cc injectors? what boost are you running? did you try unplugging the maf to see if it idled better? what about fuel pressure and timing? how far did you retard it?

im using an SAFC to control the SR injectors. My blitz dtt has recorded the peak boost to be five psi. Timing is back to 18-20. I didnt try unplugging the MAF as i am getting nice airflow readings from my SAFC. Fuel pressure cant be checked since i have no FP gauge. I know the FPR is working since i see vacuum on the boost gauge and it fluctuates.

Today we tried cleaning the AICV with carb cleaner. We used about half a can. I dont know how long im suppose to wait to see its effects but the car still wasnt idling well after we reattached the AICV.

What next to try or what else should i check? How can i check my I/C piping? And yes, being a good NICO member requires u to read the stickies.............haha

well the problem is fixed after finding a massive leak in the hot pipe. apparently the upper hotpipe was barely connected to the silicone coupling so it was leaking a nasty amount of air from there. i retightened it and repositioned the clamp and voila, car idles like NA. hope this helps and thanks sr20chris for the suggestions. u are the guru................
