Anyone else notice this?

After a hard stop, not necessarily max effort, but enough to spill your Starbucks, the car just won't accelerate.

It almost feels like the breaks are still on, however I think the computer has just freaked out and is in some sort of wacked mode. Rebooting the car fixes it, or letting the car accelerate at a snails pace to 20 or so mph fixes it.

I'm afraid to bounce the service advisers face off the dash board to demonstrate this, but I will unless someone can point me to a known issue.

Hi there, in almost 4 years on this forum I haven't discovered this as a known issue, I may vaguely remember one post similar to this but I'm not positive - regardless it's not common so hopefully your dealer can come through for you. Perhaps it's related to your other hard idle issue you described in another thread.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but perhaps another forum member will remember this issue and be able to make a suggestion.

My 2008 has done this a few times in the years I've owned it. Usually after turning while going too fast through a sharp dip in the pavement, such as turning into a driveway and bouncing in the gutter (hope this makes sense). The car seems to bog down and after a second or two accelerates normally. Didn't think much about it, and it rarely happens if I take it easy as I am going into a bump.

I'm pretty sure I have noticed the same thing, but I just attributed it to the Rogue having a 4 cylinder. Also, my car before the Rogue was a V6...so that may have something to do with it

I too have tripped this system in the past. Once when slamming down the front from a sloped driveway. Another time when screwing around in the dirt.
I believe it's a normal safety feature of the vehicle. Think of it this way: the system only 'trips' during some sort of major shock/non-normal driving incident. During an accident, this system would trip, killing power to the engine, preventing the car from rocketing off during an accident if your foot jams the throttle pedal.

I don't think it's a big deal because it's been over a year since I last tripped the system, and I've never tripped it during normal driving.

I have had this happen once in the Rogue, but not in the Altima. It's a 2009 AWD. It happened when I almost ran a red light and stopped hard. I agree with Nick that it is normal for it to do this under certain conditions. Maybe it is programmed that way to protect the transmission or something.

Well I consider it a safety issue. I had to stop a bit hard when a car decided not to turn right at an intersection. When that car moved, I tried to pull out into traffic normally and almost got rear ended because after 5 seconds I was only moving 5mph, when I should have been moving along quite smartly.

Thanks for sharing that other folks have this issue. I'll be bringing this up with the dealer.

If they have an answer to this I would appreciate if you would share it. Be nice to know why it does this.

A similar situation happens if you spin the wheels (ie driving in snow). The CVT seems to go into a limp mode (slow acceleration) for 10-15 seconds before it returns to normal.

Driven normally, I have never had an issue with acceleration after stops, etc.

If your vehicle has overdrive (I think they all do), drop it out of overdrive with the button on the side of the shifter. You should get an immediate acceleration boost. I have tried this at stop lights and also going up steep hills. Acceleration difference is definitely noticeable.
