I ran into more problems after the 5spd swap. I finished everything and the car started but I cannot change gear. I can change gear when the car is off but I would have to put it into a certain gear if I want to drive it and just stays in that gear. I bled the clutch system a lot and even the master cylinder. What is the problem? As if there's not enough pressure or play to push the fork all the way back.

did you change the throwiut collar to match the trans? There are 3 different lengths of throwiut collars, if you have the small one and need the long one you won't get full disengage

uhhh...is there another name for throwout collar cuz I don't know what that is. Is it the same thing as throwout bearing? It came with the clutch kit. How would I know which one is for me?

the throwout bearing is pressed onto the end of the throwout collar, the bearing taht cme wtiht he clutch kit had to be pressed onto a collar, the collar that came with the donor transmission should be correct

could also be a bad master, or even a bad pressuer plate

The collar is correct. I think I will change master and slave cylinders just to be sure. How do you know if they're working or not? Is there a way to test or see.

well number one would be to have some depress the clutch pedal and see if you get travel at the cltuch fork, and to hold the ppedal and see if it leaks back, I should hope if you bled the system you would have noticed this?

There is travel at the clutch fork. What you mean by leaks back? The parts I use for the 5spd is off a 79. I don't think a 79 master cylinder will fit so I should get a master for my year, 78?

I am prettysure the master diameter is the same, and what I mean by leaks back is when you ahve someone push and hold the pedal the fork moves, does it stay put or does it start to sink back after a minute or 2, also is the clevis properly adjusted at the clutch pedal? it should have only a very small amount of freeplay before it engages, did you have the fork properly engaged tot he throwout collar when you installed the trans?

I think I know what's wrong. The rod on the clutch master cylinder is too short. Do you by any chance have a long one around somewhere? I'm also looking for a center dash and shifter boot for a 78 280Z

there are only 2 pushrods, the adjustable early 240z and then the rest are all the same, have you checked the clevis? It's either the clevis or the wrong throwout collar

The clevis is good. I got the master cylinder from Autozone and I've talked to a guy that races and works on Z cars for over 20 yrs. Apparently the one from Autozone come in two differ sizes. If this won't fix it then i have to take out the transmission...man, I really don't want to take out the transmission.
