I have a 2006 M45 which is new to me. Purchased from my brother in Florida about a month ago. I noticed the battery seemed weak and I needed to charge it the other day after the car had sat about 9 days without being driven. The interior lights were weak, NAV would blink on and then fade out. Engine would not turnover. I charged for 4 hours and then it started right up, fully energized. I figured the battery was shot/old and that it didn't have the strength in the cooler Maryland winter, which is where I live. Therefore I had the battery replaced yesterday. Car started fine after I picked it up at the shop and did errands requiring four start and stops over a period of 4 hours yesterday, no problem. Parked in garage last night and now it won't start this morning. (Pushing on brake and start button) The car energizes, all interior lights go on, NAV lights up, radio, car lights, etc. seem to be working. The battery shows 12.75 volts across terminals. I hooked to charger wondering if perhaps the battery was weak/not fully charged. After 6 hours still no turnover. Again all lights, accessories appear to energize fine. I believe the car battery is fully charged. Confirmed battery terminals are clean and tight, no visible corrosion. The FOB appears to be being recognized by car as it will not move from "Lock" to "Acc" and "On" unless I have the FOB in the car. Also the car worked fine yesterday after the battery was replaced. Would would appreciate any suggestions on possible solves or tests to confirm the issue, otherwise I will need to get it towed on Monday to a local garage. Thanks.

Make sure the connectors are both fully seated and tightened on the terminals. It doesn't seem like anything would work if they weren't, but experience in my 06 M45 has shown me that a loose connection is good enough for the electronics and not the starter.

Yeah, I would definitely loosen and then re-tighten the battery terminals to see if there is some odd thing happening there.

Any fuse blown?

Good news in that the car started this morning. I left the negative terminal off overnight and then re-attached in AM. The car started when I pushed the on button. I have started it twice today and so far it is working. I am a little suspect that it will continue as I had tightened all the battery terminal connections the prior day with no luck. Will post back on how it turns out. I still suspect that the new battery might be defective and unable to reliably push the required amps when needed to turnover, but can supply sufficient power for the lights, etc. the other possibility is that perhaps leaving the negative terminal unhooked overnight reset some electronic "gremlin" that had developed. Thanks to you both for giving me some ideas to try.

well it has reliably started every day for the last week. I consider the problem solved. Probably just a loose cable connection to terminal as you all suggested. Thanks for the input.

Good to know! Thanks for reporting back.

Even though it was a tiny bit not clear what the problem solution was in this case, it is always good to let people know when things do work out. That gives us a bit of history as to what may occur with other people and how we all may help.

Thanks again,

:yesnod Very good point. It is frustrating at times when a person posts a problem, gets responses, then never gives feeback as to what the solution was.
