Well I finnally figured out why my fuel pump was not cutting on after about a week of trouble shooting. So I go to start the car after my self proclaimed victory over the fuel system, and it will not turn over. First thought in my head was starter. Took it out (pain in the butt to get to the top bolt btw) and went to the parts store to get it tested. It works. Yay. So they suggest that my problem could be the lock cylinder? Huh? Maybe even the ignition switch. Ok, I know that one. Keep in mind i'm a backyard technician. Well, basically The only noises coming from the car when I turn the key to start is my ACC relay kicking and my fan. I just wanted to get some suggestions as to what I should look into. I'll continue my voyage into the 240 tommorow after work with a multimeter in one hand and a Mountain Dew in the other, so some suggestions as to what to look for would be greatly appreciated. And from searching this issue on this forum I allready know that my first task will be to test and make sure that my starter is getting 12v. Any suggestions beyond that would be greatly appreciated

Take a wire you have lying around and run it from your battery to your starter solenoid lead. The third, and only small wire connecting to your starter. As long as you have a good ground/lead to your starter it should 'hotwire' your starter. That will tell you if your problem is somewhere in your ignition.

There is a connector close to starter . I think the wire is black with yellowstripe. Unplug that and put one probe in the incoming plug and one probe on ground. You will get 12v+ DC when key turned to start, if ignition switch, lock cylinder, clutch interlock switch, interlock relay, and wiring are working. Check fuses first, though. The clutch interlock switch on clutchpedal seems to be the most common problem in this situation.

Got the car started

For those of you that are curious... I did it by bypassing the starter... and jumping the battery...lol. So with that discovery I went ahead and installed a push button start so that it just always bypasses the starter when I go to cut it on. I still dont know what the orginal cause is though. I guess it could be the starter? Igniton? Igntion harness? Let me know if you guys have any ideas.

starter wire could be broken, or remanents of an old alarm? Glad you got it working

The starter is the electric motor that turns over your engine. I think you are supplying 12v+ directly to starter, so you bypassed clutch interlock switch, interlock relay, ignition switch, wiring, fuses, etc. Check your clutch interlockswitch which is on your clutch pedel. It is common for it to break.

Let me actually specify how I bypassed it. Basically I ran a wire from where you get the 12v to the starter from and then I ran a wire from the black wire thats on the starter... i guess its a ground? Took the 2 wires that I ran and hooked it to a push button. Turned key to on position and pushed the button (closed the circuit) the VWALA!!! I have a running car again If thats what you were thinking I did then Awsome... just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I guess you could say I jumped the starter.

LOL. If you had done what you described, you would have created a shortcircuit. The small black with yellow stripe that goes to starter needs 12v+.When you push your button you are sending 12v+ to the black wire. Bothyour wires are 12v+. When you push your button you are allowing 12v+ toflow to starter. If one of the wires was ground, you'd be hooking up groundto 12v+ which would be a short circuit with lots of sparks.

Anyways, you should have a look at your clutch switch to see if it looks ok.You've bypassed the things i described in my previous post.

And if it didn't have any power to it? Cause I actually tested it with a test light first.... no light. So I got the multimeter out just to be sure my test light wasn't broken and sure enough... 0v.

check ignition switch, lock cylinder, clutch interlock switch, interlock relay, and wiring are working. Check fuses first, though
