Ok so my car is stuck at a parking lot for now. my car started fine today and i drove it about an hour away and stopped to get gas....when i returned i went to turn the key and i got nothing, all my lights come on on my gauges oil, seatbelt etc but im not getting anything. it wont turnover at all...it wont even make a clicking noise. at first i thought it was the battery but the battery and battery terminals are fine. i think the alternator is fine and the only thing i could come up with is that the starter went to crap instantaniously....weird i know. but even if the starter did go out wouldnt it at least grind? could it be my ignition? Any help is appreciated i have 3 days to get my ride moved so they dont tow it.

I remember reading about an identical situation over on z31performance. I can't for the life of me remember who it was or what it ended up being, but if nobody posts up the solution and your time starts running out... it'd be worth a look. It was in the repairs section.

is the trigger wire still connected to the starter? I've seen them come off, and there are many ways for a starter to fail, if the selenoid dies it won't do anything, if it's the starter motor you get a click, if the throwout soleniod fails the starter spins but does not engage the flywheel, if the return mechagnisim fails you get a grind

back on the issue, first thing, check your cables, at both ends, be sure that everything is bollted securely and that the ground is grounded to the chassis as well as the engine, also check your fuses, verify the signal wire is connected to the starter, if thats not the issue check for voltage at the signal wire when the key gets turned tot he start position

someone had also told be about the security system. As i told him when i bought the car the guy had diisabled the security which makes up for the orange sensor light being on all the time. he had told me to make sure all the doors were shut and try turning the key both way, However ive never known a starter solenoid to just go out without making a few coughs first.

Any other things i should jot down? i can believe it has something to do with the security but im not going to say its for sure but you never know, i suppose like you said ill have to check the voltage but maybe ill catch something somewhere. i just hope its nothing major. but if not the security then i have a problem for sure.

If you've pulled the fuse for the security system, chances are very slim it has anything to do with it.

all you know at thsi point is you turn the key and nothgin happenns, it makes sence to determine why it's nto starting before blaming specific parts, step one, battery charges, step 2 cables sucurely mounted at both ends, step 2, votltage tot he trigger when cranking? one of those things is a problem, just a matter of which and why

That is the only fuse i havent checked...Reason being, I jumped to the conclusion that the problem was the starter. im trying to get as much info as possible. my car is an hour away in a parking lot so any advice helps.
