As the title says my car will not start..I have read all other "will not start "posts..some info,,,89' hatch w/sr20det... Car ran fine when engine was pulled...pulled it out to get head work done to it...

Got the work done.valve job, cams, springs, the works basically..engine is back in car everything hooked up. HAS spark, HAS fuel(atleast to rail),Cranks!

timing is dead nuts on,spark it strong...seems to crank a little slow, almost like dragging, but definaltly fast enough to start.like i said a little slow cranking.even with jump box hooked up,and the battery is fairly new... so far from all the reading i have done,i have gotten this from it..

1-Unplug MAF connector and try to start2-Clean MAF connector and try to start3-Check injector clips, clean if needed4-Check CAS and make sure it is set properly5-Check to see if injectors are firing properly

I just want to know if there is anything else i am missing,as i will not be close to a computer for the next day or so.I would like to add anything else that may be helpful to my list of things to check. thanks in advance.

+1 on that. I've had that happen twice to me now.

The easiest solution is to set the motor to TDC compression and rotate the CAS over 180 degrees and then insert it. I've tried setting it at TDC exhaust and then inserting the CAS as normal, but you end up being off and can't adjust the timing back in spec.

update.

-cleaned afm connector ,tried to start it with and without it plugged in.

-compression check, all cylinders were in spec

-tripple checked timing,and set CAS.

-reset ECU

still same problem. and the slow cranking is really killing me now...grounds to starter are good and clean. even swapped out starters with another know good working one.

Your timing chain may be off by a tooth, happened to my KA when I was messing with adjustable cam gears, it cranked but wouldn't turn over. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to check.

Ok,well i got it to fire. the damn fuek kines were backwards i never checked that. thought the guy who put the motor in would know where what goes.. like i said it fired but wont start... sounds like it wants to run.sometimes backfires through intake... i know it sounds like timing but im pretty sure its dead on. even tried it with the CAS 180 out still nothing. what else shoud i check besides the AFM,and ECM? and still going to check timing again.. but its been checked a billion times.any help is appreciated!

sorry for the thread jack, but can someone explain to me what you mean by the CAS being 180 out? i'm having starting problems as well and i'm wondering if this is the problem.

double check your starter signal wire, under the dash by the ecu, mine randomly crapped out and caused it to seriously suck at starting, i coulud get it start after like 4 minutes of trying,

make sure its getting 12v, just an idea

found another thing wrong with the car. the wrong plug was connected to the TPS ,starts now. but you have to hold the pedal to the floor to to keep it running, and it wont rev up fast. after maybe 2 minutes it will climb to 3-4k. dunno whats left to check.

I took a look at my timing chain while i turned it over by hand... when it gets to where it should be top dead center. the chain slacks in the middle between both cam gears. kinda like 1-2 teeth worth of slack, once you turn pass this point it tightens back up...how can i get that slack outa there? like i said it has normal tension all other positions, just at top dead center it slacks off a little. could this be causing my starting, and running problem? thanks for all the help!

the slack you speak of is normal. i am having trouble getting my car to start to. but with 740 injecotrs my main problem is flooding but i think i figured out i have the fuel pressure set to high for idle.

yeah mine hit the guard a little bit but it wasnt hitting that loud or noticeable.

so yours might be a little more loose then it is suppose to be.
