1991 240sx coupe, auto KA-DE

Last time I drove my car was Sunday night, and everything was fine...

Today I get in to drive across town for something, and it won't shift into 2nd gear. I moved the shifter from Drive to 2 and then it went in, so I moved it back to Drive and everything seemed alright....

Now when I put it in Park or Nuetral, it idles at 2,000 rpm; and in gear it idles at 1,100 (used to idle around 700) and feels like it is pulling when Im holding the brakes. So I can drive fine, just when I come to a stop sign it feels like it's going to pull me through, and when I put it in park it jumps up to 2k.

I was thinking could it just be that I need to adjust the idle? But I don't understand how it could of went out of adjustment just sitting there. I checked for disconnected vacuum lines and everything was plugged in. This is my only source of transportation, and I have to go back to school tomorrow, so please help me!

Thanks in advance.

first check to make sure the throttle is closing all the way and nothing is holding it open. if that checks out, it sounds like there might be a vacuum leak some where. with the engine cold, start it up and spray around the intake area with a can of carb cleaner or something similar, to see if the idle changes when you spray in a particular area. if it does change, thats where the vacuum leak is. if you suspect it has a leaking intake gasket, you can pour water around the intake and cylinder head area and listen for a sucking sound and idle change.

Thanks...

I took the intake tube off and cleaned the throttle body with some carb cleaner, now it idle's like it used to. There was a lot of carbon built up around the plate, so it wasn't closing all the way.
