I went to one of those car washes the other day with the power sprayer and the brush thingy. My car was working perfectly before washing it. Afterwards, my clutch was slipping like crazy. I was at 3K RPM and still only going like 5 mph. I drove it later that night and it still was slipping, although not nearly as pronounced as before. I have heard from a couple people that it could just be my clutch went out, as they can sometimes go out instantaneously. Can anyone elaborate on that or know of anything that could have happened?

I did a search, but nobody had a case where their clutch instantly went out on them, so that's why I'm posting a new topic.

maybe soapy water got into ur bellhousing, do you see any openings from above or below the engine? i find it too coincidental that the rare chance a clutch can instantly go out happenened to happen when you got ur car washed.

I was thinking the same thing, but isn't the bellhousing a water-tight seal? And I was just washing the body, not the engine bay, so I don't see how it could have gotten in there. I'll check it out anyway, as I was wondering myself if that were the problem.

The problem went away, so I guess it was the soapy water that did it.

there is no gasket between the bell housing and the block...s that rules out that there is a water tight seal...and there is a rubber surround around the fork that releases the clutch from the flywheel..and most car washes have an underbody cleaner..there is no reason that i can see why water wouldnt get up in there when its under imence pressure...all it would need to do is just dry..
