Hi this is on a 1990 Ka 24E powered 240. I was driving my car normal dopwn the hioghway and it suddenly turned off. I tried to turn it on afterwards and it would just crank but not start.

I replaced my spark plugs, spark plug wires and problem presists. People have told me that my timing is off. But how can I check my cars timing when my car wont turn on?

they also told me to play with the distributor, move it back and forth. Will that work or is something else wrong?

Please help, thanks in advance:help :help

check you fuel pressure and for spark. if either is bad start with checking fuses. if both are there and fuel pressure is correct then it may be timing.

You can get under your car and listen if your fuel pump is pumping. You should hear like a buzzing noise. Also, you should prolly have your distributor REPLACED. Same thing happend on my friends civic, car would turnover but no start. His distributor wasn't giving the plugs any spark.

fuel is good, dont seem to have any blown fuses and all plugs fire. I'm assuming it is the timing, but how do I check or fix it?

if its timing it would have had to jump time on the gears to be bad enough not to start. you can use a timing light as well while cranking. check it as if you would when the car is running but have a second person in the car cranking it.

while checking the timing should I be moving the distibutor? do I need to set the engine at TDC?

you just need to see if the mark is remotely close to being in the marks area if it is your timing is not your prob cause it should start.

I know there is that stuff in a can, it is really flamable and you spray it in your intake. If your car starts then dies, then you know that you need to check your fuel. If you don't get it to start at all, you know it has to do with your spark. I don't know if they sell it anymore, but I have some in my garage lol.

My sohc did the same thing one day and it was the drive gear on the oilpump that stripped adnd through the timing out of whack.

Don't crank her too much, you don't want to wash down your cylinder walls with gas. :tisk:

If you want to make sure you're actually getting fuel delivery beyond just hearing the pump initiating, after cranking her a couple of times pull a sparkplug to see if the tip is wet with gas....if it is that part is fine.

good luck and come back and let us know your progress. :thumbup

take the distributor cap off and crank it. if the rotor turns you gear is fine. did you get a look at the timing as of yet?
