Car Turns Off!

After driving my car for 30mins. it begins to shake where it wants to die. At stops it occasionally turns off and in reverse it also turns off and throws black puffs of smoke. The spark plugs has been changed and the air fiter it like new. Also the fuel filter has been changed.

ok, if it happens like 30min into the drive that is usually an underhood temp problem. first culprit, the distributor. does it seem like its cutting out one cyl at a time? that would be more evidence towards the distributor. try taking dist apart(or having a mechanic do it) and cleaning the rotor plate off with brake parts cleaner. the rotor plate is under the plastic cover which is under the rotor which is under the distributor cap. is that too complicated?
