94 Q45I've been trying to figure out why my car turns off once I come to a quick stop. If approached a stop sing or red light with appling breakes ahead of time and coming to smooth stop its fine. It is when a sudden stop has to e made when it turns off. Once it does, it says 'low battery charge'. Then once crancked, it starts right away and 'diagnostic display is ok'. I've checked the MAF connector while car is on by shaking the wire/connector with no sign of difference in idle. I've cleaned the battery terminals and tighten them. Could it be a vaccum hose? Or maybe my humming fuel pump? Would a faulty fuel pump or fuel pressure control unit provide such results. Any help woul be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

How does the transmission turn a car off?

If the fluid level is low, the Torque Converter can engage just as the engine is idling down, stalling it.

Almost impossible for a RE4 transmission to engage TC lock up as the engine revs drop down to idle. First the TC clutch is not strong enough to survive more than a few such applications without total failure = sprong, crunch thud! AND the TCU/Valve body prohibits this engagement in 1st or 2nd gear.

When a car sudden dies coming to a stop it usually means an IAC problem, or a sudden loss of voltage to a sensor from a bad connection.

We tracked one situation down to a shifting battery [wrong size] where the tiedown was lose and not oem. The G forces only shifted during deceleration and braking.

People don't seem to realize that a car front bumper can change +- 2 inches from cruise to braking..................straining cable/connectors that have lost oem clips and tiedowns [MAF being a common one].

I had the same problem. It ended up being the MAF

When you deal with thousands of Q45 [various years] over 18 years you get a vibe for the problem just by looking at the owner and then the car = long before you raise the hood.

That same vibe magically transmits thru the INET................many can feel the pain just by reading a post. Spelling, punc, vocab, little cute symbols, On screen pseudo name, tells one alot about writer and his vehicle abuse.

Seems like the pain has been increasing greatly in the last few years as the q values drop and the new owners average age/income declines.Compare current topics in the q45 forum to the M forum{where the cars are newer and cost more} and you can see the difference clearly

We are now driving the average dominoes pizza mans car!!!!

Thanks for all your responses. I will check the fluid level today. I was suspecting the IAC because as far as I know its never been cleaned, so I'll get that done. One thing that I'm also suspecting is this. If you guys remember one of the P/S hoses (small J or U shaped one near the radiator) blasted open while driving and soaked half of engine bay, alternator, battery etc... I'm 100% sure this turning off problem started right after this problem. Would this have by any chance damaged the alternator? I'll do more thorough cleaning of battery terminals and wires, anything else I should look at or clean? keep in mind and imagine if you picked up a hose and just sprayed P/S oil all over the right side of engine bay

With my 92 Q, the problem was caused by overfilling ATF.

Going to check the ATF level right now. Another thing I forgot to mention is, when I come to a smooth/slower stop compared to a hard stop it seems to help the situtation and the car getting turned off.
