my 95 nissan 240 is throwing 2 codes one is a hard code that wont go away p0505 and then it throws a p1400. i have been told it is the idle air control valve

my ? is what can i do to troubleshoot it and fix

my car would normally start fine and then it would drop rpms and shut off when at a light or stopped i changed the valve cover gasket and seals in the spark plug tubes cuz i thought it was that oil was getting in them , it actually made the situation worste . ithen noticed when the car would warm up the cat would start heating up glowing red . i then thought it was the cat but when i took it off the prob still continued.

whats wrong with my car and how do i pinpoint the issueand is this common with 240's

You're getting code p1400 (egr and canister control solenoid valve?) and code p0505 (idle malfunction). The egr valve can also greatly disturb the idle. I don't think it would do it to the point where it shuts off though. I would definitely take it out and clean or replace.

The intake air control valve (IACV) can be the culprit for your shutting off problem. I had this same problem on my '94 Mitsubishi Galant. We switched out the throttle position sensor (TPS) and adjusted to spec., cleaned out the throttle body, cleaned out the IACV and finally replaced it for a newer one from a junkyard. Changing out the IACV fixed the problem.

Does anyone know if the IACV has a specific adjustment? I'm sure this answer is in the FSM. But maybe that's the problem.

Good luck.

well i cleaned out the throttle body and put in a new iacv and still same thing thats y im wondering if it could be a fuse. another problem it throws is knock sensor but some ppl say it could be a result from the idle prob not sure what the hell is going on now. any help is greatly appreciated
