I just need to vent!My car got broken into last night, apparently a slim-jim since the doors were unlocked and no broken windows. The only thing I had lying out on the seats was a box of Kleenex, real valuable to someone else with a cold. So apparently even having nothing of value in view won't save me.

They checked under my seat (my 160g Ipod was in my room for once, thank FSM!), stole my ashtray which had about $20 in quarters, and an old-school pair of Oakleys I never wear out of the glove-box, but left the other nice sunglasses in the side door. Also, they left my CD face plate on the front seat, maybe they decided not to take the CD deck. And stole my $10 socket set out of my trunk, but left the $50 one, and also took 2 tennis rackets but left the balls. Also, they could have taken my brand new Sparco's off with said socket set, but decided against it. Weird freaking car prowlers.

Alarm system time, and I am switching from my covered parking space that is total invisible from the street (thinking easier to stay hidden when you are robbing peeps) to the exposed parking lot behind my building that is in view of 3-4 other buildings.

I am thinking car thievery should be a capital crime, with a slow death, like being beaten to death with Wiffle Ball bats.

I agree. Get an alarm, quick release steering wheel and kill switch. It's still possible that it could still be stolen or broken into, but it will just make it harder for someone to do so.

Alarms are almost always overlooked, it only takes one time for an alarm to be at the top of your mod list. My girls 240sx got broken into while we were out of the country for a month and I didn't notice for a week when I got back. At least they didn't do any damage they tore the weather stripping around the window seal and now when you drive you can hear the wind. It was probably some one who has been scoping the car out for a little while.

alarms + kill switch = enough time for you to get there with a bat to knock some respect into him

everyone is wanting to be so politically correct now days. You should get an alarm that yells out racial slurrs once its activated / set off. That sould draw attention.

The Hatch is a jackers dream, the frameless windows make life so easy for them.

Chances are the jacker does it simply because they can and its so quick, they spend a good 15 seconds getting in, if theres nothing of value they've only wasted like a minute of there jacker time.

Either that, or the person who jacked you really needed to blow their nose.

Sorry to hear about it though.

Baseball bat would be next on my list, I will have an alarm installed by next week. I haven't tried to break into my own car before, but after really looking at it today, seems pretty easy to bend the window to the side and slide a coat hanger in there. Seems like car makers should reverse the mechanism to prevent theft.

I really like this story, its incredibly old but maybe some of you haven't read it...

http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/afric...r.car/

Tonight when I got home it made me question the safety of my neighborhood, for the first freaking time. And I live in the nice part of Seattle, too, I thought the reason I was paying through the nose to live in the big city was to avoid the meth heads and hoodlums living in the 'burbs.

Check out Broadfield's thread for viper alarms. He has good deals, gives you everything you need for the install, and takes phone calls in case you get stuck.

I bought a viper 2-way alarm just for the peace of mind. I have to say it's the best money i've spent so far.

I have a 2-way, but more important then that is having a club for the steering wheel. Sure they can cut it if their a professional...but thats much more unlikely and its a HUGE deterrent.

i would rather get a quick release and a clutch lock. at night just take off the steering wheel (make sure to take it with you inside) and put on the clutch lock. its not that visible to scare them off but i mean if you have no steering wheel what can they do? sure they can take things from inside the car but they will never be able to take the WHOLE car and strip it somewhere else.

Clutch Lock FTW

That was pretty funny. That probably would work. I wonder if you can get a custom horn made for the alarm. All the system does is send power to the speaker horn, If you had one with that sound built in it should work.

Edit: a police siren or something would also work good. but the other one would be funny

No, I am really happy that all I lost that I really cared about was the ashtray, only cause it looks freaking ghetto, although I already snagged one off ebay to replace it...I just hate the idea that I can no longer depend on the place where I live, and plan on for the next year or two, to be safe any longer.

2-way is getting installed next week, my brother has got one with a proximity alarm so if your windows are down it'll start honking if someone reaches their hand into the window.

I'm sorry to hear this s*** man. I just hope you won't be too paranoid about ur car after your alarm. I guess that guy did't jack urseat and stuff because hes not really a car theif? I thinkis just someone who saw ur window open and thought to be a d!ck and just jack somes***.

UPDATE: I just got the car back from a local stereo shop, had a Autopage alarm installed, the previous owner had some bull-sh*t alarm that was draining the battery, but the door actuator was still left over so saved a little coin. Now I have keyless entry and a 2-way pager so I at least can maybe do some damage to these f*ck-sticks before they get away.

My windows were up, the whole windows down thing would be if I was just running errands locally or something...

This morning, once again, I come out to my car and the door is partially open. So apparently they just decided to hit it again, stole my other socket set and everything out of the center console... I am so f***ing pissed. I was scared enough that I started locking all my stuff inside the glove box and they didn't break it open...

After going to work and shutting my car door, I hear a plink, look down, and the lock cylinder fell out because they forced it open with a screwdriver.

First time was I believe Thursday, so this makes the 2nd attempt in less than a week
