Did the car have an electrical hiccup or did all the electrics stay on? Sounds like a loose battery connection...enough of a connection to keep internals running but not enough connection to keep enough current running through to keep the engine goingsyed wrote:Own a 2001 Maxima. I was driving back from college and my car suddenly died on me WHILE I was driving it. What could possibly be the reasons? Battery was operating properly because my car's stereo system and headlights were working. I recently got an OS2 sensor changed on this by the way.
Battery connections were fine. All the electrics did stay on as well. My mechanic told me its the cam sensor. Does that sound about right?rxm6 wrote:

O how I miss the days of a fully independent charging circuit...
how can I check if the car's getting fuel? Car starts fine after you wait for few minutes after it turns of itself while the car's in motion.NutriaforBreakfast wrote:
Make sure you are getting fuel
Did the mechanic just arbitrarily throw that out there or did he pull your codes? I've heard of the cam sensor going bad but not suddenly. If I recall correctly, there was a thread on here a while back about a guy with a bad cam sensor and the car wouldn't start. I think if the car starts a little later and works, I would ,with the engine running, wiggle the connector on the cam sensor and see if the engine shuts off...you might have a bad connection. If the sensor's bad the sensor's bad, its not going to decide when to be bad.syed wrote:

Mechanic did pull the code and it showed Cam sensor problem. He replaced it yesterday and so far the car hasn't shown the problems after driving it about 50miles. Will keep you updated. thanks a lot for your replies!rxm6 wrote:
