k guys, i am really getting annoyed with this.....Rb26 motor, S14 shell.

i got the 62* nismo tstat, put in a jug of water wetter, have 2 FAL fans flowing 2500cfm, coolant is 50/50.
no shrouds, thinking of getting some made. as well as getting some vents in my hood...

the temp is still creeps up to 100*C (212*F) while on the highway  .

it is a warm day, but i drove maybe 15 miles from work to home and it hit 212* when i was pulling into my garage.

When i drive around in the evening in town, i have no problems at all even with hard boosting.

One possibility is that i dont have sufficient air flow to my rad. heres a pic. should i relocate my oil cooler?
Image

as well, could someone tell me which rad this is? I want to replace with a koyo, and would like a direct replacement. (rad came with car, not too sure)
Image

it is 16" tall, 21" wide, and 1.5" thick.

for now i am going to try to replace t-stat, new rad cap, and flush everything out again. Would adding another jug of water wetter help me out more?

any advice/input is helpful.

thanks

not having a shroud makes a big difference

Relocate your oil cooler. I had that same issue. I'd end up having cold oil temps and high water temps. You can try just looping the oil lines to experiment, but I guarantee you'll fix it by moving the oil cooler.

That thing gets unbelievably hot and will just heat soak your radiator, especially with your FMIC already taking the majority of airflow.

Nwsquick where do you live? If it's a warm climate then search ebay for the stock RB flan clutch and throw it on. Search the forum there is a thread about fan clutch and how people got them to work.

I have two RB25 fans/clutches. One is untouched, one has the back side of the fins trimmed off to clear the RB26 crank pulley. Interested?????

I'm going to buy a koyo rad first. I'm sure my rad is the stock sr20 rad. Doesn't cool enough for the rb. If that doesn't work I'll be looking for other cooling mods. Thanks for the tips guys. Really appreciated!

stock single core ka is working just fine for me... if you get a koyo and it still doesnt cool right.. it likley wont work with a clutch fan setup with out hacking the core support due to the extra thickness... just fyi

how well is your cooling system bled?
if you have ANY air in it you'll get temp creep.

RRRRB - I'll be using my FAL fans, won't be going back to the stock clutch. Fans I have now flow plenty of air.

Carl H- I have bled that thing for hours, pressure filled it as well. Drove around, bled again, and repeated 5-6 times.

alright guys, i am re-looking over every aspect of my cooling system.

everything looks proper, but questions have arose. High humidity is one of them, its very humid where i live in the summertime and im wondering actually how much of a factor humidity plays...

my coolant lines for my turbo are another

this is my feed for my turbo from block
Image

and this is my return from my turbo
Image

is that plumbed correctly? or are they flowing against each other / against proper flow?

i am currently in the planning process of relocating the oil cooler and propping up my hood at the hinges so airflow can flow thru the engine bay, and not stay and cook everything up. I traded my old FAL fans for new ones with a shroud from a buddy. so i have shrouds now.

Any other random ideas are welcome.

Thanks again all

shrouds will help, but a clutch fan is your answer

Those 2 pictures look correct. What did you do with the coolant line that comes around from the rear of the block?

If you want it to be streetable, move your oil cooler and get a shroud. get a good fan controller. if you want it to be trackable, go to clutch fan. I tracked for 3 years with e-fans. first as pushers (bad idea), then as pullers (better). Now i have a clutch fan.. by far the best.

Bleeding took a little longer than expected. So drove around at night when it was cooler. stayed at 72*C while driving and went up to 78*C during idle. Threw a bottle of water wetter in there as well.

Ill have to take it for a ride tmrw afternoon when its hot. Ill let you all know. How does the setup look? :P

looks like a clutch fan to me.

as long as its well bled and the fan clutch is in good shape it should stay pretty cool.
unfortunately my fan clutch is on the way out and the spare i have is just as bad...

Clutch fan is brand new and I bled the system for over an hour.

Waiting for it to warm up so I can try hot driving and see if it still overheats

do you really need an oil cooler? you road race or beat on it for extended periods of time?

also, what motor mount kit are you using?

RRRRB - I will be using the car for track days and i do drive it pretty hard. I do not know what swap kit i have, was done in Japan so im not sure.

Carl H - Its some Japanese .9 Bar cap with a pressure release valve on top of it to manually release pressure when the system is hot. I have spent alot of money taking away as much "JDM tyte" stuff as i can on this car making thing work properly. Ill keep a lookout for a new rad cap as well.

On a random side note not having to do with cooling.... I was driving around this morning and everything was fine. Stopped at the bar in the afternoon for a drink with some friends and it rained really hard. I got back into my car afterwards and all of a sudden i was running stupidly rich... like driving low 10s to 7.4. and idling at 8s. ??? wtf..? Could my wideband have gotten wet? I tried starting the car a few hours later and still the same thing. Anyone got any ideas?

lol, rhd shell...didnt even notice that in the pics.

.9 bar is standard cap pressure for nissans, go to 1.3 at least (~18psi) and it will help keep it cooler.

well i got my tuner down again and we went for a drive around. was about 35*c (95*F) and HUMID today. highest the temp got was 92*c (197*f). Looks like that is fixed.

thanks for the parts (Ricky and Ramius)

now i got a bunch of other issues that popped up.... so car is parked until next summer

Cool, glad that it worked out for you. Did it clear your pulley just fine? I have the ROSS dampener and that is what I trimmed it to clear. Reason I like to use the RB25 fan is because of its curved blade design. It does NOT cool better than the straight bladed RB26, but it is MUCH quieter when it engages and doesn't sound like an old KA24E Hardbody truck rolling around.

It cleared just fine. Have about 2 inches of room between fan and pulley.

Thanks again :)

the ross dampner needed alot more cut off then the stock pulley did... the ross dampner is about 1/2 to 3/4 in longer wider than the stocker

I got one more question having to do with cooling....

I broke my defi sensor from my greddy housing on my upper rad hose

im looking for a replacement, but there are two options available.... one is a 1/8PT and the other is a 1/8NPT.
The Greddy housing it screws into has WJ-36 on the side of it. I have searched and searched and cannot find the thread pitch for this housing. When using my thread pitch gauge, the Metric "27" fits perfectly in the threads. but is "27" PT or NPT

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks again guys

More than likely it will be the 1/8"PT. Almost every Japanese company uses the BPST thread pitch, while here in the US we use NPT. But, with a little thread tape, I know for a fact that you can use one in the other......Have had to do it once or twice with no issues..... ;)
