I just changed the radiator in my fiancee's 2001 pathfinder le, filled the reserve and the radiator, ran the heat for about a half hour, car still starting over heating, did I let it circulate long enough? Not sure what I did wrong. Please help. Thanks!

Did you replace the thermostat? If it is stuck closed, it would cause the engine to overheat, and it has nothing to do with the radiator.

No, but the fan still comes on so I don't think it's the thermostat but it could be, should I just change and if so, where is it? Pictures would help. Just an FYI again this is my fiancees Jeep, I have a 2000 Acura TL which I know all about.....Just wanted to add that so you guys don't think I know nothing about cars............

Some people call all SUV's "Jeeps". This could be the case. Like how some people, especially in the southern states, call all flavours of soda pop "Coke".

Yeah, it may also be a typo since his username info box thing says 2001 Pathfinder LE and also in his first post he says...

The cooling system in your pathfinder is run totally different than your acura.

In your acura the fan comes on when the thermostat tells it too and refilling coolant is done right at the filler neck of the radiator, while running the car with the rad cap off and you constantly filling as air escapes.

In the pathfinder the fan is always on because it is connected to a belt that is constantly running, and filling the coolant properly is a lengthy process if you want to do it right. Your supposed to run the engine rev it at about 3000 for 10secs let it cool then refill the rad and repeat until you cant fill the rad anymore.

I think you have a thermostat problem its not a really hard part to replace

Make sure you get the right thermostat, your most likely going to be given the wrong one first which is for the manual transmission pathfinder. The auto thermostat has a pipe line the manual is missing.

Good luck

Heck, I just feel bad that you replaced a radiator when it was probably a $5 thermostat! Maybe the radiator needed to be replaced, but general rule is to replace a thermostat when you replace a radiator, just in case.

Good luck, it may be a simple fix.

I have a somewhat weird question for ya, do you know the dimensions of the finned area of the radiator? I'm looking to do the electric fan conversion and I don't know the radiator dimensions and the max size fans I could mount to it.
