Ive got my idle @ about 1100 right now, hoping it would stop the car from cutting out when the clutch is put in.. sometimes it idles @ 1100, alot of the time when I come to a stop the car drops down to like 200 idle if that.. sometimes it will completely die, sometimes it idles so low the whole thing shakes and then comes back up [not to 1100 rpm but enough to stop it from dieing]

This all started when I put a working fan clutch on my car.. plugs are new [less than 2k on them..].. cant think of what else... my timing is slightly advanced; think that'd do it?

check your tps setting, If thats ok you may have a problem with you idle compensation valve [IACV]

Throttle position sensor. its mounted on the side of your throttle body.

Yehhh what am I checking for?? I remember following my chiltons manual for reseting the idle or something; have to unplug it then run the car for a minute or something.. should I try that process again?

no that is doing your base idle. You need to set it up so it reads .5v with no throttle applied. the car needs to have been warmed up prior though. you take the measurment from the center wire off the tps connector.

Start the car and adjust the idle screw until it reads .5v on the TPS?

(sorry if im being an idiot)

No warm the car up to operating temp then shut it off. Take a volt meter and back probe the center wire on the tps with it plugged in shoul be about .5v +/- .05v at throttle rest. if its not loosen the 2 screws attaching it to the throttle body and gently rotate it till you aquire that voltage.

Try not to focus all that much on the TPS as being your problem though this is just a check to be sure it is in the correct area it may not be your problem. since this all happened after you put a part on your car you need to take a real close look at the parts you disturbed during that repair.

Not sure if this is a completely stupid question or not, but it wouldnt have anything to do with belts being too tight or not right? I notice a squeak just after 4k rpm.. [for about 1/2 a second then stops]

nah belts wouldnt cause what your experiancing.

Isnt your crank angle sensor harness in that general area? perhaps you disturbed the connection? also check all the vaccum lines running across the radiator shroud make sure they are all going to the right ports.

Nistech.. question for ya my good man

Will you come look at my car ;)

er anywho, the real question I guess..

I was out there fiddling with some stuff while the car was running, I was moving the wires on the TPS connector back and forth.. it seems like it makes the car jump around - idles high then low then high then low etc..

One of my injector connectors [hehe.. funny..] is also broken.. the little clip that secures it in place is broken [guess it'd be #2 - 2nd from the front of the car], the connector itself seems pretty tight on there, but if I move it back and forth the car does its crazy idle thing again, and when I wiggle the whole harness that runs across the fuel rail it sounds like it's backfiring or something.. it sounds like a muffled sound up front near the header I guess. Maybe when I wiggle it one of the cylinders is not firing and it's just shooting air/gas into the headers? Not sure.. I noticed a gas smell a little while ago but it went away and I reassured myself it was the pos car next to me..

Anywho, do any of those sound like they cause the issues im having??

Thx u thx u, i'll buy you some flowers on mothers day ;)

yea those injector connectors could definitly cause your problem. try cleaning all 4 of them and securing them to the injectors better. thats a pretty common falure onst losta nassin. damn hold on dictonary uuusides noun again...lol

give that a shot see if it helps.

Well I went up to my dads house, started the car and showed him what it was doing.. I showed him how when you wiggle the harness around it makes the car idle weird.. it actually died when I was moving it around.. He said to take all the electrical tape on it off and make sure nothing is bare/rubbing another wire..

Took it all apart, didnt see anything wrong.. wrapped the harness back up in tape and put everything back in its place, it seems to be gone now.. When I put the clutch in the rpms drop a little below the idle then it levels off [maybe like 100 or 200 below idle??].. anywho, it has not died on me yet or gotten so low that it chokes and has to kick back up..

Once I got everything back together I was looking in the engine bay and by looking through the mechanical fan I figured out why the condensor fan does not work.. I guess when I did my head gasket & radiator I didn't secure the condensor fan wires to fan bracket [I guess that's a good word for it].. The wires had hit the fan and were cut in half some time ago.. I've been w/o a condensor fan for like a year and half o_O

Hah! STUPID ME. Oh well it's fixed I think. :)
