I know this sounds terrible, but does anyone have any car stereo hook ups? I want to get some new Alpine gear but retail price is nuts and so is buying from those scary New York sellers on the internet. Wondering if someone has an employee discount or a shop or a friend at a shop. Of course I'll pay you for your time.

In case you're wondering what I want and why I would post here....I want to get the Alpine IVA-W205 head unit + PMD-B200 BlackBird navigation. I'm sure retail on those is around $1000 and $750 respectively.

Bonus if you're in So Cal!

I've got some friends who work at the Best Buy down the street from you but they don't carries those items.

Have you tried shopping with nextag or one of those sites? I got about $200 off my head unit from one of the shops I found on there.

I got my IVA-W200 from a place on pricegrabber or froogle. It was some shop in NYC and it was a 45 minute conversation to get the thing purchased. I ordered it online and they have to call you back with crazy high pressure techniques to buy the extended warranty or overpriced delivery. I hate those guys.

I've purchased my last 2 HU's from Ebay. Both are factory refurbished and the first has been running for 4 years without one problem. My new one isn't having a problem either. If you buy from ebay, make sure you buy factory sealed new or refurbished.

Sounds like you just had a bad rap with one shop. Just don't buy from them again.

Look again and read the reviews from other customers and check the overall satisfaction rating from past customers and you'll be able to find a reputable dealer that'll give ya a good deal.

That's most of the places in NYC. It's that way on any electronics from cameras to CD players to head units to TVs. The top 10 results on pricegrabber are always like that. Very shady.

I didn't check for the specific models you listed because I'm on my way out the door, but I saw your thread and felt compelled to help out. The stuff they sell is usually the cheapest you will find or as cheap as the cheapest you will find. Hope this helps.

They had the same price as Crutchfield. I am sure there is someone close to me that would like cash and can give me a good deal on the Alpine IVA-W205.
