OK so my 92 240sx SE sat for like 6 months due to me having a company car. Of course it didnt start after that. I bought a new battery and it worked fine for a few months. Then the starter went out. I was hitting the starter with a metal pole to get it to start a few times. Alternator was tested, everything else was fine. Replaced the starter and the car worked great. It even drove from dallas texas to upstate ny.

However now its acting weird. The car starts fine, but once it warms up it wont start again. After it sits for 3-4 hours it starts fine again. So the car is essentially useless since if I go run an errand it wont start after being parked.

Could it be a bad starter? what is changing when the car warms up? could a conection be loose?

This is getting really frustrating.

Anyone want a 92 hatch, 5 speed, southern car, 90k, 5 spd? red on black leather? haha

First guess would be the ECU's coolant temp sensor is bad.

+1I had the same problem, and the ECU's coolant temp sensor was the problem.

I'll take the car, if it's free.

A lot of times in b-series hondas it's the distributor. Shut off while driving, but if you wait a while it'll turn on... Friend's first integra did it for about a month before she got a new one

Disty is fine. It takes hours to fire up again. Gonna check the ECU Collant temp sensor here in a minute. Gonna give it a clean first, and if that doesnt work Il get a new one tommorow and see what happens. Thanks guys!

So I found the two plugs that come off the upper radiator hose and go into the Intake. The red one I have messwed with but the black one to the right of it with the blue wire doesnt look right. The blue wire looks like it might be nicked but not 100% cut through. What connection is that?

Download this, it has a harness layout. ALWAYS CHECK THE FSM! http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/91-94//EL.pdf

If this sensor is bad would it cause the symptoms I am having? from what I have read on the internets the sensor needs to be replaced if your temp gauge is acting funny, havent seen anyone post with the same problem as me, and the coolant sensor be the issue.

Wire with an inline fuse from battery / fuse box to relay power in. Wire from relay out to fuel pump positive, negative to clean chassis ground. Ignition switched power to relay coil, other side of relay to chassis ground.

Well so far it works! I let the car get to running temp, turned it off, then it fired right back up. When trying this yesterday it didnt work for a few hours. LAst time I tried to drive it I got stranded at the mall for a few hours. So Im going to drive it around for 20 or so minutes tomorrow and just park it back at my house, then see if it starts again. That way if it doesnt Im not stranded again haha.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm never taking my car back to the mechanic I took it to, who said there's nothing wrong with it. Then he wonders why Im replacing the brakes myself...sigh..I wish mechanics knew what google was.
