car starts and idles weird

i have some problems with my 240sx.sometimes it idles really weird and sometimes its normal about 700-1000rpm. it can go up and down and it feels like its going to stall.

now during cold days my car makes weird noises trying to crank. this only happened to me this morning not sure if its going to happen again but anyway it took me a minute to start the car

can anyone answer my problems?im guessing air flow sensor, maybe battery? not too sure

Good idea on the MAFS as a possible culprit, it was the culprit to my oscillating idle. Now when you say it says that it oscillates, do you mean it's oscillating the entire time it idles or does it once in a while?

Also what kind of sound does it make when cranking?

maf, how many probs have you caused? LOTS!removing, disassembling, and cleaning the myriad of idle controls has been known to resolve a few idle issues. its not usually convenient.try spraying your running engine with carb cleaner and check to see if the rpms rise ever so slightly. this would indicate a vac leak. also give the car the old wiggle test.
