Car starter gone bad?

Ok heres the situation. About a year ago my starter relay switch went bad so i rigged up a switch that bypassed it. That solution ha worked for about a year.... until last night. Last night i go to start my car and nothing the in the world could make it turn over. It CAN be pop started so long as the battery has juice, but it doesnt seem to like regular jumper cable-jump starts. Sometimes my car will start of i have two batteries and a car charger hooked up, but most of the time it wont. I'm wondering if im in for uying a complete new starter

btw:one time while the starter was slllloooowwwllllyyy turning over my engine (to no avail), i saw a bit of smoke arise from the starter itself

sounds like you burned the motor out. Why didn't you just go to nissan and get a new starter relay switch?

i took the starter off and replaced it today....it was the culprit. The starter also managed to detroy 3 good batteries. they are now incapable of being recharged
