2011 M37X with 40K miles. Brand new tires. Today it started shaking badly as soon as I reach 50 miles. The shake is worst than what you expect from bad wheel balancing, and does not go away when I accelerate. Any opinions?

My guess is, if the tires were just put on and balance done, that the tech didn't put the weights on good and they came off meaning you are badly out of balance. They stick on with tape or whatever and sometimes fall off.

Wheels out of balance is my guess also.

Can you do a visual to see of there are weights on the wheels?

Another thought is, if you can get the front of the car in the air, is to take and try to wiggle the front wheels. Any play (forward to back, side to side) is an indication of failed ball joints, bushings, or that a nut worked itself loose. I would check sooner rather than later, as a wheel flying off at high speed, or a sudden failure of a ball joint or bushing, will be bad for you and anyone in the vicinity.

Went to the dealer. They made an appointment for next week. I stopped at an independent mechanic on the way. He said go get car washed from underside. The snow impacts into the wheels and adds a lot of weight. Problem solved!!
I have been living in Cleveland for last 16 years, never had this issue. Learned something today.

See it quite a bit, snow covers rims, then forms ice on the insides of the wheels and brings them terribly out of balance.

Yep, happens to me a lot when I go do donuts in a parking lot lol. Going sideways packs snow into the wheel and if you don't clean it out immediately it will harden up and do just that.

Glad it was a simple fix.

Wow, that's pretty crazy. Glad it's an easy fix. I wax my wheels, both the face and the barrels. For me it makes cleaning them much easier then if I didn't. Maybe it can help keep the ice from sticking.

My guess is wheels out of balance PLUS alignment issues.
