Car stalls on hot days.

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hi, I have a nissan pulsar 1995 hatchback.

On a warm/hot day the car will sometimes stall while I am stuck in traffic (creeping) or once a red light turns green and as I go to accelerate it will just die on me. If the AC is on the car seems to idle faster and this issue does not happen much it has happened once with the AC on but about 60 times with the AC off.

I also have a problem and I am not sure if it is related but on a hot day after driving for awhile the car will not start back up unless I put my foot down on the accelerator while turning the key. Sometimes this starts it up right away but other times it can take up to 5 minutes before the car starts.

I have replaced the fuel pump, filter and put a new air filter in as it was pretty dirty.

Does anybody have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance :)

Second issue sounds like leaking injector, car floods when hot. Pushing throttle all the way down at cranking generally cuts off the injectors to help a flood start. The 5 minute wait says flooded too.

Could affect the stalling as well or the TB needs cleaning and PCV valve needs checking for clogged. Possible small vacuum leak if the idle is uneven.

Thanks for the info I will see what I can do. Another thing I forgot to mention is that when the car is failing to start I smell petrol and it is pretty strong, not sure if that helps with working out what this is.

Hey, the PCV seemed to be fine. I was able to hear it rattle and I could blow in one end but not in the other and it had strong suction when the car was on.

I talked to dad about what you said and he agrees with you that it sounds like a leaking injector, is it hard to fix this?

A PCV has to be good in other ways than just rattling, a common misconception that. If the minor orifice inside (there are TWO, the minor one affects pure idle and off idle performance) is plugged well of course it will have strong suction. Pull valve out still attached to hose and engine running at idle and stick finger over the bottom inlet and the idle should change at least until any idle control can adjust for it, if not it's clogged.

Hi, I noticed today that the fans under the hood do not turn on unless I turn on the AC. I have not noticed the temperature gauge needle going past the middle but maybe this has something to do with it? Should the fans come on if I am just idling? A friend at work said something about vapor lock but I don't really know anything about cars, just trying to provide as much info as I can.
