I have a 93 240sx stock. And just recently i have come across this problem with my car, ill be driving fine then next thing i know it stalls out. Sometimes if i pump the gas the car will come back to life and resume on its way, other times it just dies and i have to wait and undetermined amount of time before it will start again, it will just sit there and crank and crank and crank. Now when im cranking i can see little puffs of white smoke coming from the exhaust, so i must be getting fuel and spark, but im stumped, can any one help me? Nissan Tech maybe? please and thanks guys, this is my only mode of transportation and im a full time student.

when it dies does it sputter out or does act like you turned the car off with the key? is the check engine light on?

Electrical or vacuum issue would be my guess. Check your fusebox (pay attn to the fusible links on the passenger side box, I had a similar prob with a half-melted fusible link that eventually burned out, thanks to an arcing wire), check ignition components, check the ECU for codes. I'm not certain what else would cause this problem, if someone else knows feel free to chime in.

As for vacuum, just do a general inspection of all the hoses. The ones behind the head just love to rot out. It'll seem like a rats nest of little rubber hoses, just squeeze, bend, flex them, make sure none of them are broken. I had about four back there that were all completely severed and one with a rip in it. You'll probably have to take off your hood (4 12mm bolts, 2 on each side, careful, it's fairly heavy, and make sure not to chip the paint) to get to them. Check the EGR also, just for good measure. Compress the diaphragm from below whilst idling and if the engine doesn't sputter and struggle to stay alive, it's shot.

well something different happened today, i go to pull out of wendy's so i push it to the floor to get up with traffic and the car, in the middle of flooring it just falls on its face then picks back up. like the car just shut off and started back up.

Check the big intake tube that goes from your mass air meter to your throttle body see if there any cracks it the rubber hose portion that could let unmetered air get.

im having the same issue..just started 2 weeks ago...the car can run for 2 days and its fine..or will stall out like you cut the ignition key off at random and then not start for a long time..or a few minutes..its totally random...now i know its not vacume related..as i only have 2 vacume lines..1 for my fuel regulator and 1 for my brake booster...i allso know its not fuel pump or filter related..as i have a aromotive pump inline with 8AN fuel line and a inline metal screen style filter....i have ruled out the coil as i replaced my old msd blaster 2 with onother one..and hame tested when i stall out my MSD 6A box..all working properly...ive gone throu all the grounds...this is driving me batty...any idea's other than what is mentiond would be a great help.
