this is really weird, the problem has been getting worse and worse. my set up is a SAFC II with a Z32 MAF. what happens is that, after i drive for like an hour, then hit stop go traffic. i would see the AFL% on the SAFC drop from .4-.3% to .3-.2% then eventually down to .1% and then the car would stall.

i'm wondering why would it do that out of no where? the connection for the MAF has been soldered. but i'm not 100% sure if its the connection problem from the MAF or the SAFCII. i've been taking the SAFCII out of the car because someone broke into my car and stole my original one. now i unplug it every single day, and i noticed that the connection is getting bad.

when i look at throttle percentage, its constantly at 1.5-2% even though i'm not stepping on the throttle. when i wiggle the connector around, the throttle goes to 0% where its suppose to be.

you think i should cut the connector off and just directly connect all the wires together?

also i notice another contribution to my car stalling after driving for a long time is that the idle drops down to like 680rpm after driving for a long time. i normally idle at around 700-750rpm. i don't know if the low idle would contribute to low air flow % reading though.

thanks for your help if anyone can help.

You should always solder all connections... Never use those crappy wire connectors. ( I also had bad luck with them )

Its a harness connection that comes with the safc.

I do think you should stop pluggin/unplugging it. It wasnt made for that. I have something i cover my CD player, safcII and AVCR with.

As for the problem, im at a loss. I have no idea. The connecting might be going bad but i dont think that contributes to your problem. You shaking the connection causes the 0%. If it makes you feel better you could solder all the wires and get rid of the harness connector but i dont know if it would do any good. If you do make sure u use flux to really penitrate the wire.

Hopefully someone else will know more about this.~Sam

well later on that day, the car wouldn't even start. the car started up, i checked the sensor check on the SAFC for the air flow meter, and it would read 1 volt then it would die out, then stall. i cut that stupid plug for the safc off, and i wired each wire together. that got the car running for a little bit.

but as soon as i got on the highway, the afl reading was going waaaay down, and my tps reading stoped showing ( or was really lagging ) i was cruising at 17% throttle, but the SAFC showed 0%, and my AFL was reading 0. but if i hit over 50% throttle, the throttle percentage would hit like 20% ( so the meter was reading with a 20% lag and would not hit 100% ) occasionally it would jump back to life and read normal throttle at 17% and 3% air flow. that would last for like 30 seconds, then it would die out again!!!

i pulled in to my boss's shop and used a scan tool too look for a faulty tps code, and maf code, but i got nothing.

do you think its just a poor connection from the SAFC to the ECU or do you think i have bad sensors?

even though the ecu didn't read out any codes, i still have a feeling it could be my MAF thats dying. ( which i'm hoping is not ) what do you guys think?

thanks

just solder eveything. if u have the wires taped at the ecu thats why u are seeing weird readings. zero then jumping up then back to zero
