car stalled out, egi relay clicking

i searched and i didn't find much like this.

i'm driving down the road, it's a hot day like 93 F. i just filled up. i'm going like 35. all of a sudden about 1/4 mile up road after getting gas the car starts bucking like crazy like fuel was cutting off. as i was about to pull off road it stalled on me. i tried to start it, it would crank but not turn over. so i left the key in the on position and popped the hood. i hear a clicking from the EGI relay like the tempo of the turn signal. i try to start it a few more times with no luck. then i wait a minute and it starts up, clicking obviously stops. i get further down road and it starts bucking again and stalls. at that point i just got it towed to the garage. btw this happened before on another really hot day like a month or two ago but i was able to drive the rest of the way home with no problems (35 minutes). the mechanic also drove it around with no problems today so he didn't really look into it. what could be the problem? i looked for disconnected hoses, wires etc. and didn't see anything. thanks for any help.
